Default 96 cobra vs ls1 questions

ok here we go. I know a guy I call mustang Roger. He has a 96 mystic cobra, it sounds like a cobra with flowmasters. I think he might have headers but i would seriously doubt a tune. This is the type of guy that thinks his car is made by the hand of god basically annoying. I have an 2002 ta a4. I have a slp cat back, lid, free mods and I am pretty sure a converter because i have yanked some cars that i shouldnt have. He wants to race and I used to be a 5.0 guy before i bought my ta. I know that the 5.0 cobra are awfully slow. How was the 96 cobra? Should I be worried? I will more then likely be sporting some new drag radials by then. He wants to race from a digg and a 25 roll. I tried to tell him my car feels brutal from 25. I used to out a notch back with a 306 and trickflow heads and yada yada and it didnt hit as hard from 25

I know this car had the non pi heads but what if he does by some chance have some pi heads? how will the outcome be?

First of all he doesn't have PI heads. That is the 99-04 GT your thinking of.

As for the race, if all he has is a flowmaster and headers he's really not too far from stock. Cat-backs do very little for the 96-98 Cobra's, and header gains on a mostly stock car are minimal as well. I don't know why anyone would do headers before a mid pipe on a N/A Cobra.

So yeah your gonna blow his doors!

I used to have a very good running 97 Cobra and only raced two F bodies during the time I had it, but I got a 99 SS from a dig by about 1.5-2 cars and a 6 speed T/A I raped by about 4 cars, that being said I was on an uncharacteristally sticky road and sticky nittos and can drive a manual, the F bods were on street tires with green drivers. I also ran a 3.23 geared auto Trans Am after I had my 4.30's in from a 45 roll and he put about a car on me but didn't pull much. When I ran the two F bodies from a dig I had 3.27 gears, Flowmaster cat back, Anderson Ford Powerpipe, Cone, and MAF, and Nittos When i rolled with the T/A I had the same + 4.30's and M/T drag radials. If he has no tires it won't even be close, if he does have tires and he can drive it might be a bit interesting from a dig. With stock gears they feel like **** down low but they pull hard past 3200 rpms when those IMRC's open up

You only won because of driver mod. The auto t/a was probably weak against you because of the 40ish roll being a bad spot. My friends 96 cobra got absolutely annihalated by my 02 with just a lid/catback.

In stock for 96-98 cobras are pretty slow. They NEED big gears. But a big geared/sticky tired cobra isn't nothing to sneeze at from a dig.

if he's running stock gears you'll smoke him.

4.6 cobras are DOHC 4 valve engines. quite a bit better than the non pi 2v engines that came in the gt's

You should have him pretty easily if you don't launch in reverse. With his mods he might be lucky to cough out 270rwhp. I have a lightly modded 99 cobra which is a bit quicker than a 96-98 and I think I could probably just barely take a stock LS1 out of the hole with 4.10s and DR's, IRS hopping like a bunny.

If he knows to shift at 6500-7000 in every gear, he'll be closer than you think.

I wouldnt' expect him to win, but just not an annihilation.
