Fair enough. They're both amazing machines, and I've love to have either one. Given the choice, I'll take the M5 though.

Give me the CTS-V anyday. More attractive styling in my opinion, supercharged V8 powerplant, relatively inexpensive to mod and make gobs of power AND did I mention $30k cheaper?

Ik they are different cars, I'm just stating wat other new cars would of been a better buy imo. He obviously has another view hence y he picked a heavy overpriced mid 12sec car

But then again id take a gm over a bmw anyday. I think they all look like crap except the e39 m5, e46 m3, and 135I. Although I think the m6 is the best looking new m car

I drove an 09 cts-v... Felt like a normal caddy with a big motor, which didn't feel like anything special. I remember thinking, wow the coolest thing about this car is how the red lights outline the tach as the rpms increase... and then decided it wasn't the car for me (despite it being a better performer than the current M5/M6).

And what's overpriced for one person may be a bargain to the next...

So you would take a '94 Safari over a new M3? Might want to qualify that statement...

That's funny, when I rode passenger in the M5 it didn't feel like anything special. The interior was nice, the exterior styling quite dull if you ask me. I wouldn't know it was anything "special" if I hadn't looked at the rear of the car and seen the "M" badge. The car rode nice, but compared to my friends CTS-V I didn't feel it rode any better. It doesn't handle better, doesn't accelerate faster, doesn't stop shorter. Cadillac's interior seemed exceptional to me. I was trying hard to figure out where the xtra $30,000 was hiding. lol

Within the same yearings. But I prolly would take it over an m3, bmws are expensive to mod, slow na, expensive for repairs, and expensive to begin with

M6/M5s are no good from a dig, they weigh too much. This why you generally see them racing from a roll...

And I thought Z51 was a handling package... just assuming though...
M6 and M5 both have launch control. I have driven BOTH and have smoked a couple C6s and C5 Z06s. My friend leased an 07 silverstone metallic convertible and an 07 arctic white M5 both SMGs a couple years ago and are so smooth and powerful. I remember we had 3 people on the way to hollywood and slowly pulled a z51 c6 corvette with a single person. i believe they have some of the worlds fastest shifting transmissions too. Done 180 in M6 and 170 in M5 also my friend claims he went 196 on way to san francisco in the M5 but i couldn't get them past the posted speeds with the fastest settings and boy did they go through tires!!

The things that stuck out for me were the exhaust note, the way the SMG blipped the throttle, plus the "tightness" of the car (steering, etc.) really inspired confidence in it's ability to take corners. I could go on...

Like I said, i know the v is a better performer, but i'd never know it from a test drive.

I would guess the 30k went into the motor... It's not cheap to develop/build a reliable 10 cylinder with an 8,250 redline that makes 100hp per litre.

That being said, a fully optioned 650i vert exceeds an M6 coupe in pricing so how expensive can you really consider the M to be (compared to a 6)? Furthermore, a base 6 coupe is more expensive than a cts-v, so I don't know why anyone finds the price gap between the m6 and cts-v so hard to digest.

I don't think there is any reason to doubt the story when you consider weight differences.
Remember, your video shows the M6 COUPE barely beating the C6.
The 'Vert weighs over 400lbs more than the coupe, so the result isn't surprising.

The only thing I didn't like about the CTS-V when I drove one was the heavy doors with no window frame (if that's what you call it).

I actually prefer the interior of the new CTS-V over the E60 M5.
The thing that ruins the M5's interior for me is the big Nav screen bump in the dash.
I think the CTS-V's gauges could be less set-in though.

The new M5 is supposed to have a variation of the TT V8 in the X6 M, too bad it is ugly as sin.
Speaking of ugly sedans, the Panamera outsold every other Porsche model in the US this year. WTF...
NO, I don't want the 911 turbo, just give me that really bulbous looking estate car. 5 doors and 5 goofy looking angles. Mmm.

I doubt a new m5 or m6 would beat a c5z06.

The M5/M6 exhausts do sound incredible, I will give them that. The V doesn't sound too shabby either. I'm seriously considering selling my Cobra (2003, 37k miles) and putting a nice down payment on a 09 V. My friend's car just recently got a 2.55 pulley, cold air and tune and put down just under 560whp. Lower pulley and cat-back can put these cars right around 600 rear wheel. That's amazing horsepower/dollar.

Driving one might change your mind (unless you already have)...

The v coupe is coming out in 2011... might wanna wait for that.

Just do pulley, intake, headers, and tune. I heard catback does nothing for the price. Would be a killer car

The only sedan with comparable power/dollar is the current Audi RS6, but it isn't sold stateside.

Pulley, intake, tune would be my first mods. Borla tested their cat-back vs. stock and gained just under 10whp with it. Their system allows you to retain the stock front converters so with cat-delete I bet you would see more power. Plus the sound is much better than stock imo.
