That's why I sold my LT1 and picked up my G8. Now I have a fast, very fun car to beat the hell out of (02 Z28) and a very comfortable cruising car (G8) instead of two rattle traps

There's definitely a time where a new car is nice to have even if it's not as fast...or maybe I'm just getting old.

ABSOLUTELY tune only, the SHO will run 12.6-12.7. in any conditions.

370rwhp/3700lb gt vs. 365rwhp/4050lb g8 gxp. come on now man.

The GXP would have stomped both of those cars... it has our stage 1C (stealth) camshaft, 1 7/8" shorty headers, Corsa Exhaust, Rotofab CAI, and Livernois Dyno Tune and makes 455 RWHP.

He was talking about stock for stock since Sticks and Stones brought up that he thought a stock GXP would beat a stock 5.0.

$33k for a new Mustang GT + tax, lic, etc + cost of mods to go about as fast or barely faster than a bolt-on LS1?

No thanks.

If I was in the market for a car right now, and if I was on a budget, it would be used LS1 F-body all the way.

If I could spend a little more, used C5Z06 or Terminator.

And if I had the ~$35k total out-the-door cost of the Mustang burning a hole in my pocket? I'd wait 6-12 months, save up another $5k, and get a used low-mileage C6Z06 for $40k. There is just something about a Z06

I think our money is well spent people, I wouldn't be concerned.

Exactly... and some people like to have new cars.

Or an SRT-8 or GXP or better yet a 335i.

I think even tuned it won't be any quicker than any those cars tuned, probably have a lower trap speed, 4300+lbs handles worse, way too big and not very aggressively geared for AWD.

It's a nice car but I think it has definitely limitations unless the turbos are swapped and even then it will be hard pressed to trap in the low 120s like the 335i.

Looked like a fun race between two basically new models, considering all the revisions each car has over the previous model year.

I don't wonder what it would look like if the Mustang had serious mods and I wonder even less about all the considerations of how many used cars someone could have instead of a nicer new car. All these other comparisons are useless... "What if" there was a Fox body with a stroked and turbocharged 351W or the fastest Pro5.0 car in the world was in the race... WHO CARES!

They are what they are and both happen to be fairly nice cars in their respective categories, neither of which includes a 3 series BMW(but the Taurus is in the 5's category, albeit slower(stock) and more than $20,000 less expensive).

This was about a new, slightly tuned SHO drag racing against a new, apparently even less tuned Mustang GT. Neither is the quickest car on the streets, but both look fun to drive and respectable.

Get your GM fact straight; G8 GXP have seen high 12.81@109mph stock. Thats more than good enough to hang with the 5.0l.

I recall seeing a 111mph run somewhere...

Very nice video. Thanks for posting. I can't wait for more 5.0's to hit the street.

Has to be a highly modded one like mine. I beat a g8 gxp 6spd manual (stock) by a couple of car lenghts 30-100 before I had methanol injection or an LSD for proper traction in 2nd gear. Was about 400whp at the time with 93 octane. Now I should have better traction and 430whp. My car weighs 3500 without me in it.

Just because the quickest one did it doesn't mean the others will. There are too many factors and you surely know it. Several 2011 GT's have already bested 12.8 while factory stock. They're close, but on average, we can't expect the G8 to match the new Mustang GT. It's not really a fair fight and makes for a weak case for debate. Like the LS1 Camaro back in 1998-2002... One or even 10 ran 12.9's... Maybe 100 did... Thousands of others didn't.

whos quoting the mustang hero times? The GT has already proven to hit 12's pretty damned consistently, no need for hero times in that department. Even the slower quoted times for the GT are in the 13.1 range so thats still enough to beat MOST well driven g8 gxp times. Not sure where the problem is here....

Yeah, owners are already running 12.7-12.8. Evan Smith ran 12.6 @ 112mph, but with a 2.06 60' time. So there is obviously more on the table.
