Well we went out to get some food and he starts messing around so than we go from a 40 roll and i got about 2 cars on him and he let off. cant wait to see what they say at work tomorrow lol

just make sure your race consists of more than one-half a sentence, ie "we go from a 40 roll and i got about 2 cars on him and he let off". This aint your diary, spice it up with details.

Haha, even though you know I wasn't referring to you, the interweb rules require that you and I go on a several page exchange of insults that have nothing to do with cars! Have at thee!

Good kill, stock 97 Cobra's aren't much from a roll, the great equalizer would be from a dig with good tires and a good driver, even then you should beat a stocker. I used to own a 97 and I can't remember how high first went with the stock 3.27 gear but I believe close to 40, or it might have put him at a fairly low RPM in second gear which wouldn't have been a good pull for him. Fact of the matter is that gear should be the first mod these cars see bar none. Nice kill though.

Good kill! x2 on the gear comment, my brother just picked up a 97 body with an 03 N/A engine in it with an 01 intake, talk about a bastard engine, lol. He ordered 4.10s the day after he got it. Those things love the upper rpms, and in the 3.27s he would always shift and go out of his powerband. The steeper gears keep those DOHC motors where they belong, that's for sure!

These motors were made to run 4000-7200 rpms i used to trap at about 104 with my stock gears and I still remember being just under 6000 when I crossed the traps...for a 4V that doesn't see alot of highway/interstate speeds I would do 4.56 gears no doubt, for a car that is driven a bit more on the interstate/highway I would go with a 3.90-4.30.

He was torn between 4.10s and 4.30s, but he talked to a reputable builder in his neighborhood, Bill Silva is his name, and he had a 4v Cobra and tried a blown Cobra with 4.10s, went to the track, and then tried 4.30s. After the 4.30s he lost 2 tenths, but it could have been the conditions, as well. I couldn't believe it, myself, when he told me this. At the same time, the 4.56s may be worth it for the sole reason to hear it shift into the next gear at a little higher rpm man I could listen to those engines scream all day.

On a blown Cobra the 4.30's may have been enough to pull the car out of its power band a little bit? Or he could have lost some on the 60' getting it to hook? Could have been anything. I would say on a power adder car you could easily get by with 4.10's, my 4.30's were amazing N/A but were a bit of a handful on a 150 shot and 500 ft/lbs of rear wheel torque, 4.56's I would say would be a bit steep for any significant trap even with a 28" tall tire, but man on a N/A car they work great!
