Default cammed 2v vs 2010ss

i had a dream about this race that happened in china....

so my buddy just got a 2010 ss...six speed..

i have a cammed 2v 4.6, 4.10's, tb/plenum, exhaust with stock manifolds which are quite a restriction on a cammed engine...some nice meats out back

anyway to make it short and to the point...

from a dig- i absolutely rape. i slip the clutch at 4k on the street and no spin (n/a 2v's don't make enough power to spin )

from 40- stays even all the way through the short bit of second and then slam third and its a slow pull for the ss. we shut down at around 100 or a tad more maybe and he is about a car or car and a half in head.

same outcome for the rest of the 40-45 rolls

20-25 roll went slightly better for me and i stayed even through first and second and part of third...top of third he starts pulling and probably gets his rear bumper near the front of my car...then comes fourth and we end with his rear bumper just a tad ahead of my car...

i had a feeling he would outrun me. car did decent for the little power it has (274rwhp LOL)

cool dream huh?

and moral of the story is...............................its a good thing i have a vortech waiting to go on!

just for reference, the car had a little over 1k on it and he is a good driver although slightly slow to third lol

Does your friend want to run a H/C/I 5.0?

J/K, my car isn't going to be on the road for a couple weeks.

You ever go out to quaker steak on sundays?

ha, if you say so. they (LT's) give good gains on a bolt on 4.6 so they will surely give even better gains on a bolt on/cammed 4.6

and i've seen 15rwhp from before/after pypes longtubes on a cammed 4.6...so there is power to be had

Good runs, sounds like a fun time!

Just out of curiosity, why cam it and leave the stock manifolds?

Things on 2v's go in a completely different fashion than a ls car. I know lt's help them but I've helped buddies install some on theres and they did nothing but make it loud with not much if any power gain. Then again they weren't cammed either, good runs mrbigjeep!

Good runs and I'm impressed how you keep up with him and again I'm deceived by another post that seems to show a slow 10' SS. Not bashing youre car, but you have around 100rwhp less..

Anyway, its funny cause my friends cammed 4.6l is making 276rwhp! Looks like those are usual numbers!

I'm shocked you stayed with him on both roll races. 2-valves usually are slow as ***** from a roll...even the cammed ones. Good runs though!

Have ya'll ever heard of how big of a PITA it is to install LTs on a 2V mustang before? I have installed them, twice, I would rather spend a night in jail. I would never do it again. Once was my own car, T3650, and the other was a friend of the guy who bought my mustang, contingency of the sale. His was an auto and it was a friggin nightmare. This was with a lift to boot.

Good runs OP. When I had my 02 GT, I ran right next to a 99 CB only A4 SS ONCE, haha. Few other runs with LS1s did not turn out the same, but anything can happen on the street!

Are cams easier to install than headers? I've never worked on a 2V before.

If you have access to a lift, LTs are much easier to install. And they definitely are worth some power... my best friend has a '99 GT with a nearly-identical setup as my old Mustang (bolt-ons, shorty headers) that put down 268/312 at the wheels, and mine put down 268/312. The same day I got mine dynoed, a guy with a near-identical setup to mine with the exception of longtubes put down 280/312. So even with stock cams, LTs show a gain in the upper rpm range. Cammed, even more of a difference. If you're putting down 276rwhp with stock manifolds, you will probably be in the 285-290rwhp range afterward. When did you cam it, and what cams are you running?

Not as easy as the swap in my current, but with patience and IMO, yes. Remove little crap like the front accessory drive, radiator reservoir, and a few other small things and you can get to the timing cover. The timing chain(s) assembly is pretty easy as well. I have never personally done one, but I did do a crap ton of research on it, as I almost pulled the trigger before I sold it and bought my TA.

I did the LTs on a lift both times. Still, phuckin PITA. Of course, these were both BBK LTs, other brands may have better fitment, BUT the whole experience makes me quiver.

it has hitech cams...and yes its slow as ***** from a roll haha or any speed lol. i would have brought my camera and thought about it too but honestly didn't think i would get any footage because the only way to hold it would be with part of my hand on top of the steering wheel...turns out i would have gotten some tail light footage. but the story is accurate lol

about the LT's...one thing at a time! who says i won't put them on?! as a matter of fact i had a set waiting to go on but sold them due to the fact that i was gonna go turbo...well now i have the vortech so it will probably get longtubes after all! and i also have a tubular k going on so that should make the LT's quite easier to work with.

anyway, i never planned on camming it and not doing longtubes...but i have a blower waiting on me now and that will be priority and then some headers later on down the road since i'm not staying n/a now anyway...so not a big deal to me. if i was, it would be first on the list.

Sounds good with the blower going on. Things will really get fun then!
