Driving to and from a 9-5 job on the highway for 10 extra years might not have much of an impact on your driving ability.
I think maturity, having a family to think about, responsibility, etc. play a larger role in how you drive rather than how old you are. Those things may come naturally with age, but it's not a guarantee that you can point to.
For the most part, most people don't know how to drive defensively anyway.

Teens are shitty drivers.
I'm 2, and to be honest I have gone to the track every week for the past 5-6 months and gotten as much track time as I can, yet I still don't think I am nowhere near an experienced driver. Mind you I know more about dragging and the track than about 75% of the people who show up and have helped lots of 5th gen owners that go out there lower their times with a few obvious pointers.
But yeah, young kids = retarded. I have seen a high school kid in a modded z28 blow his engine out doing a burnout to show off to his friends cheering him on. I've seen a douche kid in a pickup run into a wall trying to show off. I'm young, but i wish the retarded young would stay away from the track. I hate racing kids who have never been out there and pull up in Daddys 11s car. Always scared they're going to run into me or something.
