Default 2011 LS3 Vette(auto) vs 2001 Camaro Z28(manual)

Well i had a friend take out the Vette and i drove my camaro and hit the highway. The race was from 50mph to about 120-125 and i got beat by 1 to 1 1/2 lengths. I was shocked as to how quick i pulled at the begining and the vette seemed like it was a couple of miles an hour faster coming back. One race i started in 4th and he was in 3rd because i kept spinning bad when i would hit it in 3rd but starting in 4th was a disaster and the vette pulled immediatly.

Everytime i would shift from 3rd to 4th i would get pulled on and did alot better going from 4th to 5th but was barely in 5th long enough. I was expecting to get beat bad meaning 50-125 by 4-5 cars easy and was a bit suprised i was able to keep up a bit but in the end it didnt matter i got beat and didnt have enough. The LS3 is seriously a fast car and got much respect for it.

Respectful loss. The LS3 Vette would be making more power than you and weigh less, so the expected outcome I figured. Was he auto or manual?

He was auto. My 4.10's really didnt help in this case, i would spin in 3rd if i hit it hard and then when i would shift to 4th he was at the top of 3rd and just pull, i even spin going from 3rd to 4th. I shift fairly quick and really had nothing more i can do to keep up and gave it the best i had. The vette puts the power down better and as i spin it takes complete advantage. Shows one of the many reasons why you pay more for a vette, it just uses its power better because its able to put it down to the pavement with less drama from the rear tires.

I'm also surprised the vette didn't put a couple buses on you. Good run though.

The guy probably didn't know how to race his auto car I guess, maybe he just tried to stomp and go or whatever.

I manually shift my car down to 2nd for most roll races between 40-60mph, don't really roll race from 3rd as it's a semi dead spot with the 2.56 gears

Some lower control arm's ,subframe connector's,and better tire's would do wonder's for you.Probably would be more useful than the bottle. Why try to put more power to the ground if you can't hook up.Not sure if you already have those mod's,just sounds like you don't and you should. No offense intended.

this^^^ when i put my SFC's, LCA's and TA on it made a tremendous difference. i hook better on street tires now than i did on DR's with my suspension out of wack. i used to burn through 315DR's in 3rd gear on a powershift.

OP..you did great holding off an LS3 Vette! Great run..
I was at the local track recently and saw a new Vette with the LS3 and dealter plates run. Brandy new in that bronze/orange color! Man, I have to say that it sounded amazing! The rpms came up so fast and the pull from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd was just nasty! I immediately shot a load and drueled at the same time. (kinda embarrasing to do at a track)

One day when I am about 70 years old I will be able to own one. God willing. Still one of the ultimate sports/perforamce car in my book.

You could get a used 08 for around $30 or so... Resale on them is awful, making them very affordable for the average guy

What tires are you on to be spinning hard at 50mph with only 350hp at the wheels? Put a tire on that thing problem solved.

Good luck with that, the only 08 going for 30k would be really high mileage, low optioned cars or a rental. However, if you spend 35k, you can get a low mileage 2LT car in great condition.

Yeah, but there's a difference between spinning into 3rd @ 65mph, and spinning uncontrollably in 3rd @ 50mph when you punch it from a roll.
