2011 5.0 vs 2001 Z28 (VIDZ)
I was at a gas station filling up before going home and this mustang 2011 5.0 pulls up at the same time. Its that smurf blue color but he did other exterior mods that made it look bad ***. He asked what ive done to mine and just said full bolt ons and he told me he was bone stock auto tranny. I believed him since it wasnt loud at all. We decided to jump on the highway since we both are getting on the same one anyway. We did a total of 3 runs.
1st run he did the 3 honk and on 3 we went but he messed up and actually went on 3 and didnt give the tranny enough time to kick down and i easily pulled away. 2nd run he went on 2 and we were dead even till i hit the top of 3rd slightly pull shift spin bad going from 3rd to 4th go for a couple of more seconds and then had to slam on the brakes, too much traffic. 3rd run was the same. I couldnt pop the clutch to get a nice jump, zero traction for me on this particular freeway its too choppy. I can tell you from experience when i do its a big difference at the start of a roll race.
I have to say if you run into one and he doesnt hit the gas on 2 or goes just a tad later then you its an easy win but if he knows the obvious and goes a second sooner then its pretty even. My tires are terrible and i wish we were able to run at higher speeds my car does alot better the faster i go but thats what i got and thats how it went. I have much respect for the 5.0 it kept up really well and it was close and for the most part even. I told him to send me the vidz since we discussed him recording it so i hope he does. Either way i think the win should really go to the 5.0 being bone stock it did well keeping up with a full bolt on LS1, im sure if it had just a tune i would be toast.
This first vid im posting is a perfect start for the stang and he is actually hitting the gas a bit earlier to have the tranny kick down. He did a good job we started at the same time. As soon as i pass 5k i start a slight pull and once i get into 4th im very very slightly pulling, road is pretty bad and choppy, didnt get a chance to get to the top of 4th. Race was from 50mph to about 95-100mph. Sorry for the video quality, he did it with his phone camera. Ofcourse all races are computer generated on a closed cars with traffic, hehe.
This 2nd one im posting i did a bit better was able to get better traction going into 4th and a little better when i was WOT in 3rd and got a tad ahead of him not by much still race was only up to half way in 4th no room to go any further in speed or gear.
This 3rd vid im posting which is the 1st race we did he punched it on 3 and it was a mistake on his end because the tranny kicked down too late and i was off, he learned quickly and the other runs that i posted above you can tell he did much better and was a second or two quicker on the throttle. He told me he was a bit earlier then me but i felt it was even and appreciated his honesty very cool guy.

Thanks for the comments guys, in fairness to the 5.0 it was bone stock with a little over 6,000 miles on it. If it was tuned i would've gotten beat bad or any other basic mods. I know i would've done better at higher speeds but we didnt have room to go any faster. When were racing im sure at 50mph his tranny is downshifting to 2nd and definitly not 3rd gear and im starting the roll race in my car in 3rd, dont know if that makes a difference or not but thats what he told me. So in the end it was a very close race.

Good race. Wonder if you would have pulled out a bit better if you had 3.42 gears?
Those 5.0 auto's have a horrible downshift lag before they engage. Ford really tried to make them "idiot proof" for the average non-car guy/girl.
