New guy with a story here
Ok. I am one of the new guys here and I have to tell someone this story who can appreciate it.
I have had my Formula here in Miami for the last two years, and never really appreciated it as much as I do now after reading and talking to the guys here. So I have a few storys that I have never told, so take it easy on me.
Anyway, I bought my car in Febuary of 2002 and little did I know what fun I was going to have with imports and Mustangs. My first encounter was not really a kill but I did end up the winner that night. About a month after I bought my car I am driving to a friends house on Taft in Pembroke Pines, FL, my wife is with me and I am taking it easy. I see headlights behind me weaving in and out of traffic trying to move up to the front row as we get closer to a traffic light. I end up in front at the light and the car that is weaving is about two cars back.
My wife makes a comment about the dumb-ss drivers down in South Florida and I kind of forget about him.
We leave the light and I continue to drive a little faster that the 40mph speed limit when I notice that the car has pulled up beside me and slowed down. It is a yellow Audi A4 with some stickers on the window.
As this is my first ever encounter on the street I am a little caught off guard when he floors it and jumps ahead of me about 2-3 car lenghts.
I step on the gas and start gaining on him we get up to about 120 and I am right on his rear bumper and he still hasen't let off of the gas.
Now for the good part
My radar detected normally starts off slow and gets louder. This time it just starts screaming, and I immediately slam on the brakes. You can guess what that guy did.
Thats right he just kept on going. Around when I was down to about 70 the cop ahead hits his lights and pulls over the audi abouut 2 miles ahead of me.
The look on that guys face when I drove past him with my windows down and waved to him was well worth getting beat on my first time out.

I have two years of stories about rich F@#ks here that think because they spent 70k on a car they can beat a Formula. I have to pace myself or I am going to end up writing one big long post telling all of them at once.

stupid me, he ment the audi...
They arn't that fast stock, but they can be made fast without dropping too much bank. 300hp is about their reasonable limit though I believe. I got my *** kicked by an A4 when I was in the mustang, but I wouldn't fear one now.
modded S4 would be annother story though.

The cops in my town dont use radar/laser/anything. Makes even slight speeding, like 5-10 over, damn near impossible because you never know where they are. Oh well, the winter will pass soon and the track will open and there will be much rejoicing.

Possibly, sure.
Like I said before though, he had a huge running start, a ton of momentum, and a few cars lead before you even stepped on it. He was probably up 20-30 mph on you, which means you had to make up that speed difference before you could even pace him, then you had to overcome his constant accelleration in order to start to catch up to him. If you would have continued that race from 115+ you would find yourself effortlessly flying by him like he hit a wall and find yourself a few football fields ahead.
THAT is why ricers like flyby's so much .... it gives them the feelin that their car is fast when it takes you a few seconds to catch up to them. "Yo man I held off a TA for like 5-6 seconds"
Nice kill again, and welcome to the board.

Road tapes. They are pressure tapes that broadcast to a remote unit up to 1500' away. They are a MAJOR pain in the ***. Pennsylvania uses them also. There is no detector for them.

No, you can't see them. Actually, by the time you see the transmitter, it's too late. By the way, DO NOT lock up the brakes going over them. They are spaced 5 meters apart, by design, and you can rip them apart if your tires catch them just right. The bill I got was as follows:
Speeding ticket (78 in a 55): $275.00
Destruction of county property (vandalism!): $325.00
Replacement speed tapes: $1375.00
Total: $1975.00 and 5 points
This was a few years ago, and my wife is STILL mad!
