Default First kill in the Integra (3000GT feels the wrath)

Only power mod done to the car is a AEM short ram intake. I got that because my stock filter was dirty and I figured the intake would allow better gas mileage and the sound is like something sent from God himself and went directly into the motor. Alot are scared and jealous of the intake sound but to me, it kinda feels like I have Vtechs!.

Anyways onto the kill...I was driving home around 11:30pm from a long, long day at work. I have a 45 minute drive so it mostly a whole lot of just relaxing and cruising. Well getting off the interstate and going down the road I've got about 10-15 more minutes when a light catches me and a couple other cars. It was a 4 lane road and the car next to me along with me were behind 2 other cars. I was in the left lane and up front to the right I hear an import exhaust tone but doesn't sound like a typical 4.

It sounded weird but honestly like ****. I look and I think its a Probe maybe? Well we all take off and the car is going slow. I guess he sees my HIDs and got curious because he slows down. Ahhh, its a black 3000GT. Well I roll past him in 5th gear and I hear him speed up along side me. And then he takes off but doesn't really go anywhere then he lets off and hits the brakes. Ohhhh, he's showing me what he's got. Well hell I'll do it too... I drop it down into 4th, then 3rd, then 2nd oh **** too many downshifts. The revs shoot up to 6800rpms but I punch it anywhere. I quickly shift to 3rd and get back in the powerband. I run it out alittle then let off. I had only got to 60mph.
Anyways here he comes again. I figured he would give a smile, nod, thumbs up but no. He gets along side me and at this point I'm back in 5th cruising. He falls back some and I'm again then I hear his motor scream as his transmission gives out a "SCRATCH" when he downshifts. The motor is screaming but there is a slight tick or possibly an exhaust leak. I look over thinking "Well should I see if he wants to go on the 3rd honk?" then I think "Doubt it you dumbass, you both are in a 16 second cars he probably doesn't know what 3 honks mean." I even think to myself "Are you seriously about to race this pos?" Oh well, I downshift and as soon as I do he takes off without warning. I shift hard and pass him easily. After this time he doesn't come along side me again and I see him pull into the gas station. Hopefully he put the good gas in it to give it more power.

Nice kill, lol. These days if you told me you beat a VR-4 i wouldn't be surprised. It's hard to find strong 3000GTs now. They're either built or beaters, and most aren't built.

BTW, What does a stock integra make for power?

Nice kill! Lol that race must have been like 300hp total. I remember when I had a 97 GS-R. Fun little car actually, you'd be suprised how many cars I was able to take down in that thing. Not saying it was fast, but it was quick for 170hp lol. I definitely don't miss not having torque though.

I'm rather surprised by the outcome...well, sorta.

The 3000GT SLs have 220hp (they are fat pigs, however) and should be about as quick (if not quicker, especially from a roll) as an Integra LS.

From the way it sounded I honestly don't think it was running on all 6.

A buddy of mine selling a FWD 1992 3000GT for $750, complete with new wheels and light rod knock. He says his "beater" Neon beats the snot out of it. Of course, turbos and nitrous do tend to add a bit of muscle.

LOL great kill dude. Oh just a note, there was a turbo LS integra on the dyno yesterday. He knew nothing about the history of the motor. During the session they were running into some weird issues... And then it blew on his last pull!

Considering 3000s are such a nightmare to work on, it probably wasn't running on 6. It takes like 4+hours to change spark plugs on that damn car.

A clutch? Most dealerships won't even touch it, and an indy is going to want $1K in labor, if not more (i've seen quotes for $1500 in labor alone).

Parts are tough to find also...a lot of factors are contributing to the demise of that platform. I would never consider owning one.

Thanks for the encouragement Matt. Can't wait to bolt the turbo on now.

I had a '94 GS-R, loved it. 94-98 Mustang GTs hated me

There was also a 160hp SOHC 3000GT from '97-'99. And all of the base Stealths used that crappy engine. Good kill Stopsign

Great kill but what kind of 3000GT was it?

Yep the base 3000GT is a real dog. The SL had 223 hp and the VR4 had 300-310 hp. My modded 93 VR 4 has 550 on race gas. While they are fat the VR4 AWD make it a great 1/8th mile racer.

Damn, if you're smoking other cars already, what's going to happen when the turbo goes on!? Lol, good kill!

I honestly think I've only seen 2 nice ones ever, including all the ones I've seen at cars shows and such.

Thats how most DSMs are.

My college roomate had one. It made some decent power on E85 (~450?) on twin 15gs? but he never raced it because he was afraid of breaking. Yet he never seemed to stop talking ****..
