Default Should I? 94 Z28 vs 09 Si Coupe

Normally I wouldn't ask if I can kill a Civic but after seeing the quarter mile times I'm starting to doubt it.

So a friend just got his 2009 Honda Civic Si. It's a 6 speed, FWD car and the engine looks and sounds stock. He is one helluva driver though, probably THE best I seen my entire life.

My car is a 1994 LT1 automatic, I'm pretty much stock too. Rear tires are 275s but bald as hell. I got Solomon's "economy tune" (which by the way added like 6mpg or something which is nuts), straight pipe 2.5" all the way, high flow cat, 2.5" cut-out (it doesn't bypass the cat, can't pass smog with that), K&N CAI, and I'm planning to do the TB bypass. Solomon told me I have 3.23s in the rear (GU5).

The thing about my car is that it's maintained well but for some reason it can't match the 0-60 figures out there. Every 0-60 I got with it was about 6.5-7 seconds which is terrible.

He wants to race me for 100 bucks. He said 0-100mph and I got him to agree to 0-120mph.

What do you guys think? Should I? If I should, should I open the cutout? Should I leave it in D or do I go faster by shifting 1-2-3? I'm thinking of taking off the panel under my CAI filter temporarily for this.

Anyway you can borrow some slicks or dr's from a buddy? I have ran LT-1's before and the only thing i see is that they are torquey off the line. If your tires are bald and hes a good driver like you say and he knows how to luanch his car, he might just take you off the line especially if you just sit there spinning. You might have tio play ctach up after that...since 100 is on the line, i would at least try to get ahold of some good traction to be safe.

Race him for pinks lol, are you confident in your car and your driving if so I say go 1-2-D, if your not let the car do all the work in D just try not to spin. I dont know much about your car or the other guys car but I think you should pull on him pretty good as long as you dont mash the gas and spin forever. Do you have any friends that would let you borrow a set of sticky tires for this?

Damn we pretty much said the same thing and I didnt even see your post. The moral of the story is LT1 NEED TRACTION like Camaro said torquey off the line. I would race him for $500 but then again I have the money to spend and im confident with my car and my driving.

Does he have a fart cannon on it? because that will make it 0.000000005 seconds faster.

You would be suprised because those cars are not that easy to launch and have wheel hop. So with a decent launch i dont see why you would'nt be able to atleast keep up with him in the begining. Higher speeds you should have the advantage and pull slightly. If its till about 120mph you should have him by atleast 2 cars. All this is just guessing just run him and see what happens and stay safe.

Don't forget to post a video afterwards. I'm pretty sure you'll have him by 120 if you don't spin like crazy. Get some tires so you spin and look like an idiot.

And OP, if you are seriously questioning whether or not you'll lose to a Civic Si, you have problems.

Step 1: Buy some tires worth a damn. Do a nice little pre-stage, not a full out burnout like some dbags do at the street races, and start the car in 1. If you keep it in D, it'll spin and the tranny will want to shift early and then realize it can down shift. Seconds you don't want to waste. Obviously make sure you shift into 2nd, 3rd, etc. a bit before redline.

Step 2: If you still lose, sell your LT1 and buy an LS1. If all else fails and you still lose, burn your car

Ehh, I've driven the new Si's and have ran a friend's also. Maybe a little "fun" up top but gutless down low. Wouldn't mind one as a DD but I'm still hoping Chevrolet comes out with the G8's replacement for my new DD

Here's my story with first hand experience of these automobiles..
I had a 93 trans am 6 speed, it spanked my friends 01 s2000 pretty bad.
Now I have an 03 s2000 that puts a couple cars on newer civic si's.
If your car doesn't run like a turd you should have him. Borrow some DR's. If you live close to Louisville KY come borrow mine.

Don't mean to be a dick but I would call that ricer math.

OP I really don't think you'll have a problem as long as you get out of the hole decent. At my local strip I see the newer Si's running 14.9-16.8 LOL.

Probably goes without being said, but some weight reduction won't hurt. There has to be a good weight reduction thread on here.
