I feel like it might be a bit more suited to my heads than the current cam. I'll wait until I survey the damage (gotta pull my rockers and see if the valves all close) and if it's not bad then I'll call Vengeance and see what they say.

Oh ok well hopefully its not bad. I thought about pulling my medium sized cam in the camaro for a bigger one but decided to take this mild cam as fast as it can go

There's something to be said for sticking with the same combination and getting everything you can out of it. That was pretty much PSM's plan when he had his Z28, and he took it from 12.6 to 11.4 without gaining power.

I'm always amazed how poorly LS2's dyno. I was shocked when looking at C6's to find out A6 ones dyno 330rwhp with LS2 and ~370rwhp with an LS3. Crazy how a few years can make such a big difference. Just like the LS1's vs. LT1's

Do it! Or else!

Yes, your current cam is just a little guy. Make that popcorn pop!

Yea thats my plan. It feels like an accomplishment when you get everything out of a combo. When i'm done I plan on going from 12.2 to 11.1-11.2 without adding any power.

My new timing set arrived, so I'll try to pop the rockers off this weekend and see if the valve all close.

Well, I decided to get started yesterday, diggin into the Z28 to start assessing the damage.

The damage is worse than I hoped, with almost every valve being bent and every piston having marks. Hopefully I don't have to start digging into the bottom end, but it's not looking great so far.

Also, I found out something else I'm not too happy about. When I had the heads put on I specified Trickflow 215's and here is my invoice from the shop that did the work:

When I pulled the heads yesterday, here's what I found:

First off nice runs!!! Car really moves out. I mean its too late now but running a single chain on that type of setup is just on borrowed time. YIKES!!! looks like you may have kissed all your pistons. Hopefully it doesnt get any worse. I would DEF be giving Trick Flow a call!

Thanks!

I don't blame Trickflow since the heads are stamped. The shop that I paid to get the heads and install them should have known what they were putting on the car.

I may be half stupid... but what would the performance diff be vs the 215s?

The bigger heads would work better with a larger motor. Probably hurt some mid range on the stock bottom end.

That is some serious bullshit with the wrong heads being installed on the car.

I'm seeing more and more why some people are so hesitant to mod their cars. It's hard to find a good shop, so unless you can do alot of the work yourself, it's kind of a gamble.

Did the pistons make it out alive, or is it time to forge the bottom end and bump up the spray?

Also, you should think about replacing all the valve guides when you have the new valves installed, just to make sure none of them cracked or were otherwise damaged when the pistons hit. If you need a machine shop, Dave @ Edgar Machine in Ware, MA does awesome work at a reasonable price. It's a 2 hour drive for me, and i don't go anywhere else.

Yep thats why I don't take my car to any shops. I hope you get it taken care of and you don't have to mess with the bottomend.

I've decided not to risk it and to just do the motor. It was pretty much the next step in the evolution of the car anyway, and I've been looking for an excuse to mod the G8 a bit. I'm going to pull the Camaro from the road and play with the G8 for the year and see if I can get the Camaro revamped over the winter.
