Default Genesis sedan vs joe dirt and RSX on hwy

well i picked up a 2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 for the wife and have to say i like the car alot. it's rated at 385hp on 91 or higher but i ran 87 where it's like 378hp or something like that (it's a luxury car who gives a sh*t). went to florida last week and on the way home yesterday (on a hwy in Florida with zero traffic 7am on a sunday) like a 25yo guy in a red 91-92 Z28 (nice clean car had a loud exhaust bordering stupid) starts pacing me at 75mph in the center lane (i was in the left lane) i said to my wife (who was sleeping but i felt like being a dick) "tell me this guy wants to race" her answer, "you're like a 3 year old, no he doesn't."
sure as **** he whacks it.. gets a fender on me by the time this things kicks the ZF 6spd auto down (if you haven't ridden in or driven one it's comical there's so much torque management in this car it's like Hyundai is saying it's impossible to blow this up under 100k mi lol) and just starts pulling the Z28. went from 75-135ish and put about 1.5-2cars on it. as i slow he gives a smile and a thumbs up. car had the 5.7 tuned port on the back left side. at the time i was surprised but then thought about it and unless he was modded pretty well it would've been a tough sell to beat that Genesis on the hwy it's like a silent missile. sucks from a stop, too smooth and the shifts are butter but up top it goes like a freight train.

then, an hour or so later, this jerkoff in an red (must be the color idk) acura RSX with all kinds of stickers and huge exhaust, slammed to the ground, i know it's a total one off custom, cuts me off so of course i made it my job to block him from passing not only me but everyone for the next 5 miles of 3 lane freeway traffic by positioning myself in just the right place so he can't screw with anyone and that took to putting him in his ricer (i know i'm in one right now myself lol) place. i kept repeating aloud "you'll F**** pass when i say you can got it" with my wife again referring to some age thing i don't know, i was in pissed stage at that time lol.
but it was fun as the open stretches of freeway like 1/3 mile betwen the occasional 18 wheeler and tour bus, trailer etc. cluster was there. he would hit it and try to catch the next cluster but i would just reel that pos in and then park in between said vehicles and stay there for a mile or so. i finally felt his debt was paid and let him go. just as i did that this Georgia Trooper was over the horizon out of the car pointing his laser gun at everyone and i saw him in the left lane and starting cheering for him to go down and the Trooper didn't get him.. i almost reverted back to the "block" car i was so pissed karma didn't come through ..

CLIFF NOTES:

1. 1,600 mile 2011 GENESIS SEDAN 4.6 BEATS 91-92 5.7 Z28 ON THE HWY 75-135 BY ABOUT 2 CARS

2. ACURA RSX DRIVERS DO NOTHING TO HELP WITH THE STEROTYPE OF RICERS

3. GENESIS SEDAN WITH THE V8 GETS AN UNBELIEVABLE 27.3MPG CRUSING AT 81MPH THROUGH THREE STATES WITH A ***** LOAD OF WOT RUNS UP TO 130, ON REGULAR AND 530 CRUISE RANGE.

comon GM give me a car like this so i can stay brand loyal to the company i have purchased 7 cars/trucks in last 9 years

here's a pic. is it the black with tint that's causing all this screw with me interest or what?

Genesis sedan weighs 4,000lbs... your comparisons have nothing to do with what he said.

yeah, no match for a G8 from a stop or even a slow roll. the throttle mapping is extremely lazy as is the 65% throttle in 1st at WOT but as i said it sweeps the needle effortlessly into the triple digits (look at the mph compared to the et in the 1/4 tells it all), amazed me. that ZF trans is as smooth as silk, total polar opposite of the GM 6spds even post tune. i HATE my yukon denali's 6spd.

I love the G8 many friends have them and some are very quick (10's) but the lack of any NEW ones is a problem and lack of faith i have in GM to produce a chevy variant that will be up to our standards of refinement/luxury left me no choice as i couldn't justify spending $65k on a Mercedes E class or 5 series (and both are smaller inside by alot). Chevy needs to make a RWD lux/sport sedan to fill the void left by the TBSS and before that the '96 impala SS and if they can add a friggin auto dimming mirrors inside and out, 8" nav, etc. it would be a plus..

I will say if anyone has used that adaptive cruise control like this one on a long trip it works amazing. i was slowing down to 25 mph in traffic and then returning to 80mph without ever touching a pedal lol, it was like steer and go.

PS. what mpg does the G8 get under similar circumstances? 80mph cruise.

Honestly, no idea. I only drive it hard so I don't want to know what it gets because I'd probably get sick

next time you do a hwy please report back, curious. they are all over the place 13.8 @104 to 14.2 @103. look at this chart of the new 300c vs genesis
300c Genesis 4.6
0-30 2.1 sec 2.1 sec
0-40 3.0 3.2
0-50 4.1 4.5 (-.4)
0-60 5.5 5.8
0-70 7.0 7.4
0-80 8.8 9.4 (-.6, huge gap gets closed up shortly)
0-90 11.2 11.4
0-100 13.6 13.5 (+.1 actually moving ahead, but already lost the "distance" race as the 300c gets to 1320' quicker)

look at those differences and you can see how the trans tune is killing that car. it shifts so slowwwwwwwwwwww and you can't even detect them lol

PASSING, 45-65 MPH 2.8 2.6
QUARTER MILE 14.0 sec @ 101.4 mph 14.2 sec @ 103.0 mph
i would've like to see a 0-130 or higher test as this car feels much quicker than my GP GXP (on the fly not from a dig)and that ran 102+ in the 1/4 at 13.6. until i figure out how to disable the tc FULLY i wouldn't bother running it, but if i do i will definately run it down Atco for ***** and giggles, as the same magazine quoted my GXP at 14.4 @98 and i was able to go a ***** load faster (like fuggin .8 and 4mph bone stock with 1k miles on it)

Not to mention weight has hardly anything to do with cruising at a constant speed (I know there was wot pulls) but remind me how much GTOs weigh again?

That's because atco is a bullshit track with timing lights that are intentionally rigged to show faster times. It worked wonders for them, too: now everyone goes there for there best times as it's guaranteed to give you a faster timeslip than any other track around (or in the world for that matter). There is lots of tracks that fudge things, but atco flatout cons people.

downhill i agree, but on a flat surface or ANY incline you're making no sense. not that it matters much but the genesis with the 8 weighs 4111lbs. i forget how much a GTO weighs. but the GTO has a big disadvantage from the extra displacement. anyway this car needs to be compared to the same cars in it's class to get an idea of how well it does in the mpg area. the window sticker said 17-25 for the 4.6 and 18-27 for the 3.8 so i was surprised to see the 8 get the "posted" mpg of the 3.8. reading what others have posted it appears the 6 & 8 are very similar in mpg. which is strange to me being the GM guy i always KNEW my v6's were getting more mpg than my V8's by a significant margin. guess times are changing to quick for me to realize lol.

All the tracks in that area are fast. It's due to the super negative DA that is seen in the cold time of the year. They race there when it's 40 degrees out and there's snow on the ground. When it's 100+ degrees out no one is breaking any records, but no one pays attention to anything but the best of the best numbers. It's the same reason people think all heads/cam LS1's should make 450+ rwhp regardless of the setup.
