I was driving my buddies G35 back from a nice late lunch since he had a few beers... My girlfriend was with us in the back.
As we were at the half way mark we stopped and got gas... We usually get 2-3 runs on this trip (interstate) but this particular day we hadn't got a chance to have any fun.

As we were merging onto the interstate from our gas stop (1/2 tank at this point) I saw what seemed to be a 05+ model mustang... At first glance from what I could see it looked like a V6 but as we approached I saw that it was a GT.

They were doing about 60mph and I was merging at about 65mph.. I slowed down a bit (while in the manual shifting option) and matched their speed. It was two asian guys very early 20s. They were paying us zero attention, even the GF mentioned something about them being lame. I gave it a quick little run from 60-70mph or so and slowed back down... At this time they both were grinning/laughing pretty good and the driver down shifted.

First run- 60ish.. I tried my hardest to leave at the same time he did.. I got a slight jump and stuck with him until around 85mph where he begin to pull about 1/2-1 car length up to about 110mph or so. I was manual shifting.

Second run- I pull up and asked if he wanted to go again but this time from a bit slower speed and 3 honks. He agreed and was already in gear and immediately started honking. I wasn't quite ready and just left it in D as well as kicking it late. Took off from 40 and he pulled around 2 lengths up until about 110mph, got a nice jump on us from the get go.

Third run- This time I was prepared and asked if they wanted to do another 40mph run... He agreed and told me to honk this time. I'm not sure what happened but he botched the initial hit which gave us a nice little jump. We pulled about 2 car lengths up until about 120mph where he was EVERY SO SLIGHTLY creeping back on us. I think we would have had to hit 140 or so before he was almost back with us again.

We slowed down a bit and chit chatted... Ends up the owner of the GT was riding passenger and the friend was driving (thought it was strange both cars were doing that). They were absolutely shocked that the car was stock and revealed that he had a CAI otherwise bone stock 5sp. He asked what kind of MPG it got etc etc... Just talked cars for around 30 seconds or so until traffic was behind us.

I asked if they wanted one final pull and he said sure.

Fourth run- Again from 40mph.. He botched the shift again which gave us another jump. We pulled the same 2 lengths or so until 100mph and let off.

They dropped back and we proceeded on our trip home.
Was a nice little entertainment on the way home.

2005 GT- stock specs (I'm assuming the CAI didn't add but MAYBE 10HP/6Rwhp or so, nothing that would change the outcome)

Factor in that it wasn't his car + he wasn't an awesome driver by any stretch... Race weight was about the same (driver was a pretty hefty guy), HP was somewhat similar, outcome was as expected IMO.
Leaving at the exact same time... 40mph it would have been almost dead even until around 80-90mph and then the GT would have barely started creeping, by 120mph I would give it the lead by 1 length or so.

I have 2 shitty cell videos my buddy took.. One was started late where he got a nice jump and pulled 2 lengths.. Other was one of the 40mph where he botched the shift and we pulled two lengths with him barely creeping at the end.

Phone is dead, I will upload them in an hour or so.

that engine in the G35 is a nice one. i had an '06 maxima for about a year. it was definately quick and would pull 140 without much effort (for a V6)

 

For what it is it moves out quite nice. Kills a 3.8 seriesII.

We have raced quite a few things and the outcome is expected from specs mods paper etc but It always surprises us when we pull or hang with xxxx car.

Few months back I was driving again, had the owner my girlfriend and another passenger with us.. We ran a 95? Gt 5sp from a dig and low roll.. He spun on the dig, wasnt much of a race.. We put a few busses between us on the 20 roll as well. We got video of that somewhere too just not sure who has it. I also ran him in my trans am for **** and giggles.. Looks more like me just kicking it next to a car. Lol

It makes trips fun even if we arent In our serious cars. I wouldn't mind one over the 97 ranger 4cyl 5sp but I'm not dropping that coin on a beater/DD.

 

I love my 07 g35x ... feels like a cloud haha. Good runs lemons.
