Less detonation doesn't mean crap if his crank is flexing under power. I know stock Buick cranks will only last so long before they flex enough to self destruct due to the power. Then again, with today's materials the crank might not be the problem for the 5.0 engines. I doubt there is any detonation in Ohio's car. If there was, under those power levels, most likely there would be a rods laying on the ground before too much longer.

You're not at stock internal limit because of your horsepower.
You're at limit because of your boost.
I bet you could run E85 all day long as long as you got enough injectors and your pump can handle the power. There was a guy on a stock LS3 running 715+ rwhp on pump gas. Abusing the **** out of it 3 times a week. He went through like 5 gallons of meth a month or some crazy **** like that. Ended up tearing a cylinder because his injectors weren't enough and it leaned out a specific cylinder. Said the car still drove and all just was a smoke pit.
