I live in the south eastern part, on the coast.

Best part about living here is the water and having drag strips all around me that are open year round.

It's not the same, except clutch operation and shifting. Go buy yourself a cheap bike, learn to ride on the street. Once you get used to it, probably drop it a few times and maybe even crash, sell it and get the pretty bike that you want.
I see every idiot follow this same trend: "I want a bike, I rode dirt bikes it must be the same!!!" Buys a nice bike, thinks that because it has frame sliders that it'll be fine, ends up either scared shitless by the bike and doesn't learn how to really ride, or crashes.

Crashing is inevitable, especially when you're first learning(doesn't mean **** how long you rode dirt bikes or if you were a pro, the street is a whole different ball game), so get it out of the way on a shitty bike you don't care about.

I know it's different... I never said it was the same, and honestly, I don't see myself actually getting one as much as I want one. Too dangerous.

This is exactly my thought, I want a bike till I see pics or videos of someone crashing them...Just seems way to easy to push the limit and end up hurt or worse...

That's the case most of the time but not always. My 1'st bike was a new 600RR, was my daily for over a year. Put over 8k miles on it (riding HARD) and never dropped it. I sold it and stepped up to a 1000 and while it's a whole different animal, I haven't lost it on this one (yet) either. That being said, I have come close to losing it, going off the road, sliding, emergency stops (indo), and some unintentional drifing. Come to think of it, I guess I've just been really lucky.
