99 SS vs 00 Z-28 vs 96 Cobra
So id like to thank my NorCal brethren for showing a SoCal guy a goodnight.
First race was a 30 roll against a Z-28( mods??? Lid, stall, full exhaust) He had 2 passengers i had zero.
I thought he jumped on it after the 2nd honk thinking he did a 3rd honk, put about 1.5 cars on him. felt bad and apologized to the guy for jumping the gun.
2nd race i ran a 96 Cobra with built motor( supposed 5.0 5k worth of part. Heads and cam i was told)
30 roll again- he jumped out maybe half a car, by the time i hit 2nd i had a slight nose past, shift into 2nd i start pulling maybe a car, by the time i hit 3rd its was 1.5-2 cars ahead and i shut it down.
had alot of fun, all the guys were super cool.

96-98 Cobras weren't that fast. The main problem with them was getting them to launch with such a small ci engine. It would usually hook and bog it out of the power band. If I dropped 5k into any engine and it could not beat a lid/catback LS1 I would burn it to the ground.

the owner didnt say much to me. I heard it was a 96 from one guy and a 94 from another...
Thats what a couple of his friends told me was that he had 5 k into the motor, but like i stated before he didnt tell me what he all had done.
We did the race from a 30 roll
All i know is ive practiced alot lately shifting in my car because i want to be the best driver i can be, mainly because i dont have the funds like alot of you guys to dump performance parts in it.
And for the record im not Ju!ce were im a godly driver, just a college kid who can drive descent. Im going off what i was told by others. Ill talk to the guy this weekend and find out the true mods if he tells me. I was told before i raced he was fast and put money into his motor. I was shocked when i pulled him...

Good kill. There are always 2 types of guys. Ones that say they have all this money/work into a motor just to say that they do and could be lying. Then there's the other type that says they have minor bolt-ons but have a JATO rocket under the hood.
MANY 96-98 owners don't know or want to make the car as fast as it can be. Even on SVTP I'm always trying to teach many members on where the shift the car right. They say 6200 for example. I tell him 7k. Then they all say I'm wrong. So I let them believe waht they want. Just sayin..

I think it may be a 1994 cobra though. It didnt have a cobra rear bumper. so would a 94 cobra thats base hp 240 with 5k in upgrades including heads and cam make sense? My guess it would put him into the 340hp range?

That would be a 5.0 Cobra you raced. And unless he knows what he is doing with a setup, a bolt on LS1 will be more than he can handle. When I had HCI (AFR165s, custom cam, Performer intake) my car made 328rwhp and I could handle any bolt on LS1 I ever ran into (not by much might I add). Most HCI setups do good to make between 270-300rwhp though and IMO will be right next to a bolt on LS1 or slightly lose to one.
