Don't get a 160* stat. Those are worthless.

If anything they rob you of power, the engine needs to be at a certain temperature, right around 200 IMO in order to operate at maximum potential. If you run it too cool, as a 160* stat will do, your oil will thicken up slightly, this in turn will rob you of some HP and MPG's. Only need a 160* stat if you have a HEAVILY modified car.

A 160* stat gets you no extra HP.

There's a reason 99% of all cars run with 200* stats, that's what these engines were made for, they operate at peak efficiency at 200*.

Let's not forget, that running a cooler stat will also make the heater in your car a LOT weaker. So if you live up north where you'll need a heater in the winter, be prepared to wait up to 2 or 3 times as long for it to fully heat up.

we live in california so that doesnt make a difference for us. it may not gain peak HP but it will help u keep running cooler for longer, and i completely disagree about these motors working their best at 200*. too each their own but listen to ur tuner not some random guy on the internet

AWDTBSS...you are also some random guy on the internet. And his tuner is his mechanic. Maybe you don't know, but mechanics will try to sell you all sorts of extra useless ****, just so they can make some more money. I'm not in this for the money, his mechanic is.

Yea Im the onlyone that does work on my car. The tuner said so that he can adjust the cooling fans on sooner along with adjust the timing 2 more degrees. As of right now the tune has fan1 coming on at 192 and fan 2 coming on at 200.

Also Whiteknight '01 Mr. AWDTBSS is a highly respected guy in the bay area and knows his stuff, not to mention has friends with monsters of cars that give me goosebumps and wet my pants when they roll into the parking lot. When your sitting in 100+ degree heat during traffic its not good. My airtemp intake was 97degrees when outside was mids 70s

BlackDemonSS I highly encourage you to start a thread based solely on whether or not a 160* stat is a good mod for this car. I'm sure you will find 10 times as many respected guys on this forum coming back and saying it's not a good idea. If you aren't up for it, I will start the thread instead and show you the poll results in a couple of days. You go on and waste your money on that cheap ****, try and believe it will do something for you.

Im just going by what my tuner said. the guys been tuning cars since early 90s with the LT1s and on to the LS1s. He said his best results have been with cars running 160 thermostats.

You have how many posts on this website? Your credit right now is 0, ****, none. I'm a lot less likely to listen to you just because you say you know a lot of good local people.

If you're so set on why a 160* stat is great, perhaps you can explain it to me?

1. What are expected gains?
2. How does a 160* stat work to achieve these gains?
3. Are there any negative side effects to it?

If you are able to answer those 3 questions honestly, I will be impressed. I'm sure you'll either not answer any of them, or make up some completely bull **** response. But hey, it's your money, buy the **** and think you actually did something for the car. For the most part it's a worthless modification, won't do jack **** for you. Butin a mostly stock platform something like this is slightly negative on performance.

Cool. Post the link on here in a couple of days, let's see the results.

Also, why isn't the 160* stat in your mods since you like it so well?

Hot engine is more prone to detonation.. cooler engine allows more aggressive tune which in return make more power.

A 160 doesnt fully open until 175.

There are more pros than cons. And even the cons stated aren't enough to actually harm a motor, not even a little.

Why does gm install them and not 160s? Emissions.

You can buy one for less than 20$, its basically a free mod.

No reason for the thread, I gave you the reasons.

You will find more informed people for it than against it.
