Default M3 vs 02 SS

I've got a guy that want's to race me from a roll. We will probably be on a highway so say we will hit it from about 40mph. We are both manual, both stock. Who would win? The M3 is pretty new, I'd say 01 or better.
Thanks

Well it prolly will be close with the advantage to the LS1, just make shure you are in the right gear for the mph you are at, and don't let him get the jump!!!!

Yeah you've got about 30mph before 2nd runs out rolling from 40. If your both stock you should still take him. They are quick, but I would not say they are fast. If you race to say 80 or 90 you should hand him his ***. They have an awesome top end range however.

Go out and whoop him, it should be no problem.

I think the M3 weighs less seeng that it has a 6 cylinder motor and revs higher. It also is going to be getting 100% torque from 200 RPM due to variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust (VANOS system). With a M3 running about 333HP and a Stock SS running 335HP it should be damn close, the better driver will win.
My 2 cents

Yeah you should win. I raced an M3 when all I had on my M6 Z was a lid. We went from about 80 and I stayed behind him to bout 150 with no problem. Then we went again from about the same speed and I went ahead and hit the other lane and passed him. It was slow passing but I pulled him. We got off the interstate at the same spot and went from a dig. I took him easy then. It was almost no contest compared to the top end!

Should be a fun race! Good luck!

i saw somewhere a that m3's can trap as high as 107mph low 13 stock. the new 333hp ones are no slouch. vs a stock ls1 it should be a good race

i've u're an auto. i'd go from as low of a roll as possible.

who won the race?
I've raced with an M3 from a stall. I don't know how it'll go on a stroll, but when we were at a complete stall, the M3 had the advantage. The M3 is half a second faster when going from 0-60... 4.5 to 4.7 seconds as tested.

neal, you should be able to take him on. and even if you lose, you'll still look good doing it. it's not that impressive to see a $26K car being beaten by a $56K car...

I testdrove the M3 also, thinking I'll be blown away by it's acceleration. I was disappointed as well... i'm just too used to my other turbocharged car. The M3 is good for the beginning acceleration - 1st gear. In 2nd, 3rd and up, the acceleration feels like it's not picking up like the hype. I testdrove the smg transmission which is similar to the automatic.
