Lt1 Z28 M6 vs Cobalt SS Turbo
Ok, So I just did a rolling start race with a Cobalt SS Turbo with some kind of tune. Not sure what year it was, but my car is a 97 Z28 M6 with Lightly Ported Heads, Hotcam, Bolt-ons, 12 bolt year with 4:10 eaton posi LS1- Lid and a few other minor things, anyway the guy I bought my car from was pulling a 12.01 1/4 mile with it in summer weather and MT Drag Radials. We started from 30-35 MPH and I pulled on him but not as much as I expected I would. Hes telling me his car is a low 13 second car, Maybe if we would have started from a dig I would have left him sitting more? I was expecting to completely leave this guy sitting, I pulled on him just not as hard as I thought I was going to. Anything I should know about these Turbo Cobalt SS's?

Yes they weigh about 2900lbs and with just a tune can make 340/360 to the wheels ..
To be honest without the cam you would have likely lost that race, I would imagine your car traps about 113ish in the 1/4 with a good 60' time, take that away and the cobalt probably traps the same. The supercharged ones were not near as strong but the turbo ones can be a force, there are a few guys on here with them as dailys and they even surprise us some times.

I had no idea that they could run like that, I guess that doesn't surprise me too much seeing that they are not N/A there forced induction... I want to supercharge my car, but I just don't have that kind of money, so next year I was thinking about maybe adding some NOS since its not horribly expensive. in a way I'm kinda upset a v6 can put down those kind of numbers compared to a v8 with cam and head work...

without the cam, he would have lost.
i molested my buddies lt1 vette when i was stock.
from a stop, OP is right....you would have left him back a bus length.
he had to have some boltons and tune to keep up but they can trap 110 with just that....however, they ET for crap with the crappy sixty foot.

He was telling me it was all stock with a "GM Tune" < No Idea what that is but was pushing 22psi..... He never kept up I pulled him the whole race, just not nearly as fast as I was expecting to.

1) trap speed matters from a roll, not your time
2) Don't say NOS... Spray or nitrous sounds infinitely less F&F.
3) You don't need spray or FI to be quick (Maybe an LT1 does actually.../JK).
4) The Cobalt has an I4....

Wow, well this shows how much I know about the things, lol. I wonder what kind of power there putting down if they take the turbo off? I guess I'm just craving more and more power, regardless of what I do I don't know if anything will ever be enough. I was thinking about adding a bigger cam, the car has Crane 10308-1 spring kit on it and Manley 2.0 intake/1.60 exhaust valves, how much bigger of a cam could I add and actually get good power?

I don't know what kind of a gain you can see from certain cams with an LT1, but I have seen some pretty wild NA H/C LT1 setups. You should check out the LT1 section.
Also, it doesn't really matter what kind of power the turbo I4 would make NA (unless you're looking for an excuse /jk) but the NA production version that is 2.4l makes a measly 173hp.

ever see a base cobalt?
and if he is GM tune only (like me) he had to be BS'in or your car doesnt run a 12. i can keep with a 108 trapping car but i doubt id run nxt to a h/c lt1.

Cobalts aint that bad. Gotta side with hugger. He either had more or your car isn't as quick as the owner had said. How good are you at hitting your shifts OP? Do you know if the other guys was no lift shifting?

I guess I made this sound a lot worse than what it actually was. I pulled on the guy, I was just expecting to pull a lot harder, but now that I think about it, since those cobalts are low 13's and my car is low 12's I guess the pull wouldn't be that much anyway, especially from a rolling start. From a dig I would say things would have been a little bit different, then again maybe I'm wrong.

you should really stop comparing your quarter times, and start comparing trap speeds when you are talking about roll racing as someone has already said.
good kill though, the TC/SS isn't a slouch from a roll
