Yeah it sucks regardless of who it happens to, but hey at least I leave my cars in a 'ballin' townhouse with a two car garage and not in a school parking lot on a floodplain. Sorry Ju1ce for the lose

Shoulda thought twice about the full scholarship to a private university for grad school... Shoulda just never went to college and got a job as a salesman... then I'd still have the car!

Thought i would chime in. I own a GT that I top swapped to GTP standards with a cam, injectors, headers, trans, milled snout etc etc.. I did the ENTIRE build including a transmission that is damn near bullet proof for under 4k. There is something to be said about a car that runs low 12s all day long and drives home with heads up display, leather heated seats, and can kill vettes. Mind you the whole car is under 9 thousand dollars.

I am just starting to build my z28 that I bought. I cant get close to doing it as cheap as the grand prix.

FYI.. my grand prix stomps my close to stock m6 ls1.

I agree, they are pretty impressive for what they are. What cam do you have in your grand prix?

Where are you looking for your parts to go fast? for $2K, the Z28 will go 11s.

I'll chime in.... The GF has 4200$ in her Z28 as I'm typing this (it is a nice car, see my thread I have going about it). Next week it will have LTs/FM merge/1 chamber before the axle.. Then after that it will get a cam/converter/tune. Should be a solid 11.5-11.6@115-116 or so (full weight 2000+DA). At that point she will have roughly 6,000$ in the ENTIRE car. And I also included appearance mods, titling the car, zip ties for the wire mod, etc.....

Kills "Vettes" and "GTPs" on a daily basis, brah.

I had exactly 9,600$ in the Trans Am in my sig the way it sat (8,500 if I would have kept stock rims on it).. Just so happens it has a built 60e transmission as well. Solid bottom 11s car @ high teens-120mph 1.4X short times (again, full weight 2000+ DA).

Don't come in here talking about a GTP being a budget car and throwing out ET/MPH... This is the WRONG site to talk about what kind of ET/MPH you hit with XXXX$.

FWIW.. I absolutely love GTPs. If I had to pick a car besides a fbody or my truck (97 ranger 4 cyl 5 sp) to DD it would WITHOUT A DOUBT be a GTP. However, I can't justify it when I know so much about the fbody platform and have so many parts already for them. I can get a decent fbody for the same price as I can get a nice GTP. I'm all about performance so the Fbody wins in my book. No fbody=GTP. Honest outlook on the situation.......
But I WILL put the GTP down compared to an fbody in EVERY WAY!! Budget oriented, MPG, reliability, modability, etc etc etc.. Don't compare the two, there is no comparison.

Price it's really hard to compete... I spent 300.00 total to do my cam swap (including cam, new pushrods, valve springs, lifters, etc).. between tune and the long tubes Ill be adding I should have another 1000.00 on top of that.
I could have went with a bigger cam and probably met my goal but after LTs/Tune I should be bottom 12s with any kind of traction.

I can't really compete in the 'under 9 grand thing' as I bought the car 6+ years ago and it was 16K at the time. I doubt this pissing match is even worth having to be honest... it's dirt cheap to get an LS1 into the low 12s/high 11s area... if I wanted to do it for under a grand I would just toss a 150 shot on and call it a day.

So will a GTP. And they are about 1.5 seconds slower in stock form.

Hell it was just a GTO. Now had it been a Cobra or a Vette, that would have been sad.

Nice upgrade to the Buick Regal though.

HIGH HIGH 11s @ very very low teens IN AWESOME WEATHER and reliability will be a joke.

Give me a BONE STOCK 98+ fbody and 1,500$, I will give you a SOLID low @ 120-ish mph regardless of weather with brand new parts.

Here are prices (These aren't amazing deals, just average prices I have seen and actually bought many of these MUCH cheaper than I am listing them at)

Nitrous kit- 450$ (Brand new)
Converter+Trans cooler- 550$ (Brand new)
Extra set of rims with sticky tires- 200$
Fuel pump- 90$ (Brand new)
Tune- This is arguable... Anywhere from FREE-250$

And again, those were BRAND NEW prices, not some junk *** beat to **** used parts you are taking a chance on. I have sold 100% complte nitrous kits for 250$ shipped, had awesome working converters for 200$, sticky tires with rims for 150$, and a fuel pump for 45$.

I'm running a full second and almost 10mph faster on average than you with BRAND NEW parts for less money and more reliably. Not to mention I could have put up used prices that I have bought and sold things for and done it for under a grand.

Again, stop talking a ******* V6 up like its something its not.. They are pretty sweet FOR WHAT THEY ARE. Compare them to an ls1 in ANY FORM and you get the same response as earlier, you stupid.

Keep posting up about ANY other platform being cheaper. That is a losing battle. It worked 5+ years ago when a beat to **** ls1 was still 6K. Not so much anymore when you can get a clean strong running ls1 for 4,000$.

Nitrous adds a whole set of new variables... I could go 10s with a nitrous kit added to my car that will already go 11s easily.

maybe you can school "namos" how to build his GTP because he is spending $2K more just to run his GTP to low 12s.
