99 z28 vs. new m3
Started out last night heading to my girlfriends after work. I was on the 605 around Washington blvd in Whittier when I came up on an m3, I was cruising at about 80-85 and was about to pass him when I heard him kick it down a gear or two and start running even with me.
We both slowed down and started off at probably about a 55-60 roll I was in 3rd I believe he was in second, the first race we didn't honk it off and I let him get the hit, I gave chase and at the top of 4th I passed him by probably half a car length. We had two more runs, the second one I missed 4th the third one he legitamitely walked me by about a car length. I want to say all the pulls were from about 55-120ish with him having one passenger and me being by myself.
We pulled off and got to talking real quick, I didn't ask him what year the m3 was but he had straight pipes, udp, I think he said an intake and some other bolt ons, I have slp headers, or-y, lid, and a ram air. All in all he was definitely a cool guy I think his name was Vince and was heading to Pasadena, anybody happen to know him?
My last street racing post was not post worthy lol, hopefully this one is

Didn't know those new M3's were that quick, but I guess with those mods they can be. Nice race, even though you lost at least you didn't get killed. Was the passenger his wife/gf? I try not to race when I have passengers.

It was a white m3, I had no idea they were that quick either, kind of surprised me when he pulled on me like that. His passenger must have been his buddy, it was two guys. I have stock gears, I was taching at about 3300-3500 in 3rd not too sure I don't really pay attention to the tach I just listen to the motor and try to find its happy place in the power band, I might have been able to do it in 2nd to get a decent jump on him. Think it might have been better for me to be in a different gear?

After doing some looking around I think it was a BMW m3 either the e90, 92, 93 models.
If I'm reading this right in Wikipedia it says "Similar to the previous M3 generations that introduced a new engine, the fourth generation M3 did the same: the BMW S65 engine. The S65B40 is a naturally aspirated, high-revving 4-litre V8 that is based on the 5-litre S85B50 V10 that powered the E60/E61 M5 and the E63/E64 M6. It delivers 414dumbhp (309dumkW; 420dumPS) at 8300 rpm,[30] with peak torque of 295dumlb·ft (400dumN·m) at 3900 rpm,[30] which represents a power increase of 22% over the E46 M3". If that is the right car that I raced then damn I don't feel bad at all about losing to him haha it definitely had the newest body style of the BMW

Although I would say you would need a little more than that to keep up with a modded one. Good kill, anything can happen on the street. But if his mods are correct, he should be in the bolt on 5.0 and stock ls3 vette range. Especially at those speeds. Doesn't sound accurate but many videos with good drivers will verify its true.
Sounds to me like you ran the e46 m3 though. With those bolt ons and at that speed, it would give you trouble as well.

It definitely didn't look like the e46 model though, it was the newest body style of BMW, unless they offer the e46 in that body style? Prior to looking it up I was pretty content with how the car ran against it, when we pulled over and talked his buddy was like "that's a fast camaro, it surprised both of us" I didn't think much of it until I looked up the car and started reading about it, now I'm actually pretty happy with how it ran seeing as it puts down probably more than 100 horsepower over my car.

With your current mods, the car probably puts down around 340-350whp which is equivalent to around 400bhp.
The M3 with those mods probably has around 440ish?
So it's a closer gap than you think.

With the overall aspect of things, I think i should still be pretty happy with what my car ran, even though I did lose to him, yes or no? I do need a tune though. I'm tired of looking at my SES light all the time

The E92's M3's are definitely quick cars. My step-dad just picked up an '09. Stock they have 414 horse. With the mods that one had, it was probably around 450 horse at the fly. If it had the SMG trans then you can shift it super quick without letting off the gas. If you've never ridden in a car with the SMG trans and CVT trans it's really weird. The M3 has NO bottom end (at least it feels like it has no bottom end), but it revs high since its a 4.0L V8 and is pretty damn quick. Just know that your car only lost by 1 car to a car that cost more than double what you car did new.

Yes, I thought that he was shifting it extremely fast, I just figured he was power shifting it like a god
I definitely don't feel bad at all about losing like that when it's put in that context haha, what would it take to beat something like that? Probably a H/C/I swap?

A cammed ls1 will take a stock DCT M3. The DCT's from what I have seen are a little slower after 130 mph than the 6 speed cars considering they have similar options.
