I don't know how you couldn't be impressed by them. It's one of if not the most solid feeling car on the rad I have ever driven.....and that includes M3's and M5's.

It felt ok, but felt trapped. The windows are all tiny and the car feels huge. And when I stomped it I felt like my old lt1 would have laid the smack down on it. Really was not impressed at all

Oh that's it? It does take a lot of drive train work to get a 5th gen to handle power. I think with some bushings, axles and the 17" bias plys you mentioned, I could have gotten it into the 11's.

I have had many bolt-on and built f-bodies. I also had a 2013 SS m6 and now I have a 2013 1LE. My '13ss and now 1LE feel about as fast as my bolt-on F-Bodies did. The 1LE is on another level though. I put a CAI kit on it and I bet this car traps 113-114. My '13 SS ran 12.8 at 111. I ran my brother's 2013 Boss and I was at his door until I went into forth and let out. MOST 5th gen guys are clueless, but there are some that know how to drive and can make them quick. Hit me up if anyone wants to run the 1LE...bolt on f-body of course.

I concur with what many have said regarding not being impressed with the 5th Gen. A person's feelings about a car will be vastly affected by what they want out of a car. If a person is very concerned about build quality and how solid the car feels in stock form, then the 5th Gen is far superior. I, however, am a performance enthusiast, so acceleration is what I expect. To that end, in stock form, I feel the 5th Gen's acceleration improvement over the 4th Gen simply isn't large enough. Many of the people whom I have heard say they are "not impressed" with the 5th Gens, have cited this reason.
Not to beat a dead horse, but I believe it keeps coming back to the car's weight. The LS3 is a big step forward from the LS1. Had GM decided to install that engine into a redesigned Camaro with a curb weight similar to the 4th Gen, I doubt there would be very many people who were "not impressed."

Here's what you need to run consistent low 11s on an L99:
(You take weight off and you'll run 10s all days. Throw spray and watch out).

Full exhaust
CAI
GOOD TUNE
Cam (cam in my sig was getting my car 420ish rwhp and trapping consistent 118s and it's a blower cam. not really meant for n/a only. Look at rhinos cam, that's a nasty n/a cam).
A lil stall
Differential************ Note these things are picky. I blew my stock one out at 420rwhp on street in 2 days, but other people have seen 50+ drag strip passes out of them
Sway bar
Subframe connector
Driveshaft tunnel brace
Bushing Front Suspension
Bushing Kit
End link kit sway bar
End link mounting brace
Driveshaft safety loop
Axle 4340 Chrome
Lower control arm adjustable
Toe Rod Adjustable
trailing arm rear
Rear cradle bushing kit
Bushing rear trailing arm

You get some welds and skinnies, you'll cut almost 100lbs and I was able to hook in first with drag slicks at my power level.

You guys are biased on the 5th gen because only about 2% of 5th gen owners are GO FAST MOD enthusiasts. Find those 2% and you guys will see these cars have HUGE potential.

I think they're extremely impressive when you begin to mod and people still have not found out the secret to them. They are very easy to cut weight on and still look stockissh.

exactly. i LOVE my gf's 5th gen L99. Its not even heavily modded (CAI, GOOD tune, and a little exhaust work). Its comfy, handles great, and surprises the hell out of a lot of people who try to pick on it. Granted, a lot of people around me probably have high 12-13.5 cars out there. She wants to mod it further after she's done paying it off. So i've been doing a lot of research and i think the VVT cams are the way to go. Rhino's car rolls the eff out for a 5th gen! I just need to get my hands on a nice set of LT's and a corsa cat back (i can't stand the drone of these borla s-types).

Problem with VVT is you really need to grab a tuner that knows his **** because of the tables.

I wanted the less complicated more traditional approach so I did an LS3 conversion. Granted it cost a lot more, the car is still running on boost like it's brand new. Let's see what happens when I double the boost and throw the 150 shot in.

I love it. It is what the SS should have been. I feels like my c5 z06 did. It is very tight and a blast to drive. My only complaint are the tires. They are rock solid hard in the cold. Driving under 40 degrees can get a little sketchy. Other than that though, Its a blast and looks killer.

ur crazy if u think the 4th is faster then the 5th , factory to factory. but its alot easier to make the 4th faster on a track. put them on the street the 5th is a monster . u cant judge a car by what alot ppl say . 90% of them are shitty drivers. im not no professonal but my 5th gens got a pretty good rep in my area. for the mods done to it , it does pretty good. first time on a prepped track i ran a 12.4 . cammed car and street tires. dont want to run dr cause axel will snap almost for sure. ran a 11.7 with a 50 shot and street tires. these cars are made for nitrous. they respond to nitrous very well.
