Regal vs Heads/Cam 2001 Camaro SS

So this is the same motor that comes in the gtp grand prix's? If so how well do these motors hold up to this kind of beating? I ask because I am considering getting a grand prix gtp and just curious even though I dont street race I do like to get on it and push the cars a bit .

If tuned correctly the motors can take anything... it's usually something else that goes wrong that takes the motor out.
The transmissions are not the best. They hold up well, relatively speaking. But they need to be built to take the kind of power I'm looking for.

It was a lot of researching and labor, yes. Totally worth it though. It probably took me about 2 weeks of random research to make sure I bought all the right stuff... then about 30 hours to build the kit, install, and tune.

series2/3 3800 and LS engines were both designed around the same time and share a lot... I have owned many 3800 cars and now have a couple ls1's as well they both have strengths and weaknesses.
I hate to see GM against GM like this thread is at times they both are very fun platforms that respond extremely well to mods , a guy on the regal forum last year went 11.9 with less than a grand in purchase of car and all mods/ efforts put into it- they can be a great bang for the buck , yes $900 and change total outlay for 11's!
on the other hand nothing like kicking it sideways in a rwd with plenty of ***** like even a mild bolt on ls1 does , being able to lift the fronts and cut 1.5 60's with a decently built street car on some good dr's where only a handful of the wildest fwd 3800 cars can 60 foot like that with stupid looking preload bars on slicks sticking way out of the wheelwells - tractions a bitch with a powerful fwd.
as for what can a 3800 take ? the quickest factory assembled lower end (cammed though) in a front drive grand prix built by zzp went 8.6 @159 big turbo build...this was still running gm pcm also btw...there was a thread about the quickest vehicle tuned using hp tuners software on their forum a few years ago , i threw zzp's car and Tom kings rwd 3800 firebird both high 8's and it was crickets for quite a while before any ls engined cars were quicker - of course many ls guys ditch the factory pcm and go aftermarket engine management early on as they tend to be better funded builds than the broke guys with fwd's lol so this point may be biased a bit towards the underdog (3800)
transmission and traction are the big hurdles to overcome with the 3800 , owning a quick one can be fun because of the surprise factor nobody with a rwd pony car expects to get an actual challenge from one , he didnt win the race here but did represent what a 3800 can do pretty well IMO but it is always better to speak softly and carry a big stick so with some of the things said the door was/is definately open for some bench racing , after all it is an ls1 based forum here so if you kick the hive expect a few bees....
