Default Bolt on 5.3 swapped third gen vs bolt on 2000 Camaro SS

Had a few great runs today with a buddies 2000 SS. I just finished making a new tune for my brother's 5.3 since the one in the PCM was absolutely horrendous, and it woke the old truck motor up BIG TIME. This same race would have been very one sided beforehand, and I wouldn't doubt it if the 5.3 picked up 25-30ish RWHP from the new tune alone. Had a good time though, and it was a gorgeous day for it! Car mods in vid.

Nice runs! Curious to see what your bro's car would do with a set of 243s, a bigger cam, and an ls6 intake

Thanks guys! It's nice having a few clean ones when there are so many beat ones out there.

From what I've heard, the 5.3's only make about 15ish HP less than a similarly built LS1...but not sure how close that really is. My brother has bigger plans in the works for the car, and the 5.3 is going to be coming out shortly. I'm just glad we finally got to see what it could do with a good tune in it. I knew the entire time he's had it together that it just didn't "feel" like it was at it's peak, and it seemed like it was hitting limiter way before it should. Unfortunately, he didn't have an accurate tach so we didn't know for sure where it was hitting limiter...but the rev limit in the PCM was set at 5600 rpm....so every race he's been in with that car has been with a 5600 rpm rev limiter and an 11.4 AFR at WOT lol. It really does feel like a new animal with a good tune in it!

Gotcha. I've heard 5-15rwhp difference when equipped like an LS1 as well. Hopefully he has good luck with the current and future build. That is certainly a clean car!

I'm still thinking sometime in the near future I need to pick up a forged 5.3 and throw some boost at it

It's addicting, believe me! Been there done that lol, and I'm already itching for more boost. Going to crank mine up to 14-15 PSI and pray she holds together on straight pump gas this spring.

Oh man, those are fighting words! LOL. I'm expecting around 600-640 rwhp on 15 PSI. Not going to be up to your setups power for sure, but if I could get some damn E85 or even race fuel, I think I could push 700 rwhp out of her.

Good runs, it was fun chasing these cars from behind. They were both laying strips on the shifts and it was neck and neck.

I have confidence in it. Just going to keep boost high, timing very low, and a nice fat AFR. Throw a little prayer in the mix and it should hold lol. Should be ordering the rear set of wheels this week at some point. Don't quite have the cash to get the fronts too, so they'll come next week.

Thanks man. Too bad we couldn't get all the races we've had with the car running like this!

My car is good to go, minus a set of wheels...which by the sounds of it may take some time.

Are you kidding me man? WTF, I didn't know there was a build time on them! I'm starting to think this was a bad idea, since I already sold my old tires lol. I guess I better order them ASAP. Thanks for the heads up on the wait time.

Thanks man. And soon enough, that car will have much more than an LS6 intake on it.
