Yeah when the LS1 came out back in 97 it really did set a new benchmark for performance. The funny thing was though is that no one really knew just how capable these motors were going to be, or that they were severely underated from the get go lol.

For sure 300 rwhp in a 3000lb package will take care of a lot on the street. My buddy had a ls1 camaro with all the bolts on (headers, longtubes true duals etc.) tuned and geared and I could only put about 4 cars on him. I have since worked out a few of the kinks and picked up some power but even so i was shocked. 40 roll is not the way to go when playing with an ls car

Man I remember when the cams and what not started coming out. 400rwhp out of a cam and bolt ons was stupid

Haha yep, and all the 5.0 and 4.6 guys were buying blowers or nitrous just to keep up lol. I must say though the old 5.0 was pretty impressive for the time considering how cheap it all was.

Oh yeah, the 96-98 NPI gt's were real dogs. The PI was a great mod for those cars. Ironically I had a 04 gt that I traded for my SS that I have now, and it had full bolt ons, cams, custom tune and a 100, and even that thing was a tad slower than my Camaro on motor lol

I just have a real budget build HCI combo with a 100 shot. You know as much as I really love this Camaro there are things about that Mustang that I really miss lol .The sound for one, the new edge body style was always cool to me, and the overall feel was just better to me. Did you ever feel that way about yours? Do you like your 85 better?

Crazy isnt it. Bet the 409 didnt have 1/3 the street manners or gas milege. I damn sure wouldnt want to drive mine everyday and Im not making the power you are. I just like the old school feel but for something that u drive more than 25 miles a week ac and power steering sure are nice.

I have a dual plane and medium to small sized cam so the torque is more than the hp and flat as a table.

After selling my ls1 and now driving my fairlane with a 87 5.0 motor, I was spoiled to have the trans Am.
The fairlane has great power from low and midrange but just dies fast at the upper level. Where as the ls1 just keeps making power, then again I'm comparing a 80's 302 motor to a late 90's motor 346.
I believe my 2800 pound fairlane would beat my trans am from a stop but from a roll it would be a different story.

That 5.0's advantage is definitely weight. He handicapped himself with a passenger. He beat my H/C/E/G/Tuned 3600lb 4.6L T'Bird by about 2 cars and he had a passenger. I've seen him hang with bolt-on LS1 F'bodies pretty good too.
Oh and we need more walkie-talkies! lol

Yea he did, he said she was 130lbs. Now he wants a rerun from a higher roll. I don't think it's worth it though. If we run from 40+, I'm going to pull him harder from third and only shift once. Meh, there's a 400whp 5.0 that I have lined up, I'd rather run him. We have roughly the same weight, same gears, same power.
Haha, we need a better spot is what we need.

I'm bolt-ons and cam and would definitely be down for some runs. I think it'd be a close match. Your car seems to put out nice power for only bolt-ons and I'm just street tuned so I'm sure it'd be close.
