Mach VS stalled LS1

stock a4 auto < stock m6 auto
stall only a4 auto >>>> stock m6 auto
A yank ss3600 converter does wonders for a stock powerband ls1 platform. Gears will only slightly help. For the most part a converter does all the work.
My GTO had stock 3.46 gears and a Circle D 4k verter (round about) with a high reving motor. I felt no reason to change out the gears in the car. And it went 11.4 pretty easily on street tires. I rolled into the throttle in first gear. Had i had just a drag radial on that same stock wheel... 11.0s would have been achievable. Car only made 443whp.

Not to mention he was on street tires. DR's on that car would have mopped you up from a dig.

I did it to tighten up the converter a little bit, mainly to firm up the shifts. Personal preference on that part. Also did it to carry a little higher RPM across the 1/4 to pick up a little trap, etc. Other than that, gears on top of a stall doesn't do much.

Stoppy, that 2nd run was a good one. Your car was no doubt pulling on him and jumps out hard, but like the Camaro owner stated, he's in dire need of a tune. Regardless, nice run man.

Ok, lets clear the air since the original poster obviously can't post all the correct facts. And yes . . . I own the slow *** Z28 in the vids.
1. My car has a Yank 3600SS stall not a 4400 stall!
2. The car shifts at 6200 rpm not 6500, but in the heat of the day the trans flares a bit and it will shift a little higher. I need to tune the car badly but have not had a chance yet.
3. Other than the stall the car is stone stock short of a SLP lid and SLP loudmouth catback.
His car has a full dyno tune plus many mods including 4:56 rear gears. It wasn't a surprise he beat a 2:73 geared auto LS1. This car saw 600 miles of driving this week which is average. I'm not interested in making the car the fastest street car, thats left for my 87 Grand National.
The best race which WAS legit was the second race which he still won. We both hit at the same time and both lifted at the same time. He had about 1/2 to 3/4 car at 105.
Those are the facts. Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.

Knowing what he has for mods this race makes perfect sense and its not hard to fathom that his car ran better than most for its mods (or lack of)... I've ran into a lot of people who simply can't drive (yes even autos).
EDIT: derp didn't even think about the passenger in the car... Get a gopro mounted and run without passengers next time.

The car has a lid and catback as well. My guess with LTs and a 3.42/3.73 rear/DR would close that gap with a slight edge to the z28. At that point the mach should grab longtubes as well. I think it would make for a pretty legit race...
Of course there will be the nutswingers on both sides who say it will be a slaughter blah blah blah

No I didn't. After the races I said we should have switched to where he was in my car and no passenger in the LS1 but I called off anymore races because I wasn't liking the coming down from 100+ with the Nexens. I think with the passenger in my car and not in the LS1 it would have been dead nuts even.
