I would try intake and headers and see how much $$ you have left, if it's enough to do a H/C swap, then by all means put that **** on!!!! And the LM is a good idea....

Yeah, if the funds are there, go heads and cams, and stuff to let them breathe(exhaust, intake).

.
I agree with the others ... however, I would repost this in the correct forum(s) as you will probably get a much better response over there. Internals/externals/LS1 newb's/second gen section ... any of those would be better then over here (hell probably even the truck section would be better).

Well, if you are really serious about getting some power out of your car... the 305 is not really the way to go. See, the 305 has a much smaller bore than say, a 350. This limits things you can do to it, and the performance you get out of it is not going to be anywhere near as beneficial as it would be with a 350. If you can, and if you are willing to do this, get a 350, and you will be much happier down the road. Unless of course, you are just planning on getting a bit more power out of it, and thats it, before getting another car, then thats fine. But, if you are thinking of maybe down the road putting more work into it, spending money on a 305 is not really worth it.

Not to mention you can pick up a 350 for the price of a heacs and cam package and put down more power and torque then a h/c 305 with out trying.

Yup!!! Wow, I think I have definitely been converted. I can't remember the last time I have looked up stuff for my beloved German cars, even Porsche!!! I went to walmart yesterday and picked up two magazines... GM High Tech performance, and Chevy High Performance... AHHHH... I have been looking on Ebay for prices of a relatively high mileage 2nd gen F-bod, that I would like to purchase then put a crate engine in, if I can do the whole thing for 7-8k or under... BTW, how is the porsche job going for you?

all depends how fast you wanna go. even though you said keep the stock block, a 305 really limits you. i'd say at least swap for a L98 (TPI 350) or you could even do a LS1. cant say non-sponser names on here but just do a search on google and you'll find plenty. but bottom line, if you want some real performance n/a out of your 3rd gen, you need a different engine. but if your just determined to keep your 305, i'd go with some long tube headers, torque converter (if a auto) and some gears. to go a little more drastic with your 305, get a cam and heads. good luck w/ whatever you choose

How much more would it be to pick up a LT1 versus a L98?

If you're going to spend money on the baby 305, set a goal in mind- strokage. You won't go anywhere with 305 cubes. You'll eventually need a rebuild, and when you do, stroke her to a 350 (at least).
