Full bolt on LT1 vs full bolt on 2012 5.0

Here's me versus the LT1. Pretty damn sure he was spraying.... but he says lt4 heads/cam he should be 350ish whp. But he lost to a 342 whp 370z 7 speed from a roll that i had a slow pull on..... then all of a sudden he freight trains me.

LT4 H/C kit is just a small bump over stock, only around 350rwhp like he said. A "real" H/C package like from LE or AI is between 400-425rwhp for a street car - ported stock heads and a 23x hydraulic roller.

What speed was that from, and what gear were you both in? Like I said LT1s can have huge discrepancies. My car ran 12.8s in street trim with the major bolt-ons, which is about average for a well maintained bolt-on car. Add an LT4 H/C kit and that can be a low 12 second car that still idles and sounds like stock - could probably even hustle it as a bolt-on car if the tune is on point. I like to cut both extremes out of the picture for comparisons(unlike so many people who use hero runs in negative DA with a gutted car and pro driver), but keep in mind there are bolt-on LT1s that ran quicker then my 11.7 H/C build, and also ones that don't run much better then stock so there is a pretty big spread possible.

good ol' LT1.. after seeing this I'm wondering if I shouldn't start modding my lt.. I had decided to focus on suspension/chassis upgrades w/o messing with the engine and then just dropping an LS in my car but... bolt ons and a turb setup might get the job done for the short term

According to the real world "HCI" is a loaded statement. A tiny hotcam and cleaned up stock heads are HCI...but so is a fat solid roller and hand ported aftermarket castings. We could be looking at a full 2 second difference in the 1/4 mile here, from two cars that can both be described as "HCI".
Sure, similarly modded the LS is faster - the heads are MUCH better. A properly built street/strip LT1 compared to a baby cam DD LS1 though? The LT1 will smash it.
For example, if I were to say an NA, hydraulic roller "HCI" stock shortblock LT1 was faster then your Cobra, you may be suspicious at first and probably imagine your typical shelf cam stuck in a old beat up POS LT1 that runs high 12s with a cam. Truth is, my 93 LT1 was quite a bit faster then your Cobra with a baby 227int cam and 150k miles on it when it was stock shortblock.
They don't all run the same .

I'm gonna guess lightened car, slicks skinnies, stalled auto, 11.8 @113.

Just for reference on this, my 95 Z28 has run a 12.40 @ 107 mph. It's running the CC305 Cam (off the shelf waste of time cam) and its still sporting stock Shortblock, Heads, Intake Manifold, and TB threw an 2K Stall A4 with 3.42 gears. Like's to stay around the 1.69 60' with a 26x10.50x16 M/T.

Only weight reduction at the time was fiberglass hood, no AC, no rear seats...so not much, maybe 120#s? Cloth hartdtop 93 so was on the light side for an F-body anyway.
Wasn't too crazy of a combo and plenty have been faster with similar mods - Prototypes car right above me looks like it may run even harder with an even smaller cam once he gets heads and supporting mods on it. Heck, just a proper stall may get him to 12.0s.
11's NA is easy for an LT1, and there are countless "idiot proof" H/C packages that can get you there, but its after that where lack of cubes starts to hurt us for NA power. A lot of owners now are young kids without the knowledge or money to build them right though, so there are tons of mismatched summit magazine combos out there that run like ****.
