allow me to re iterate. he's shifting 500 rpm past redline. could be 6500, 7500, I don't know. whatever it is shifting that car 500 rpm past whatever homo rpm it's supposed to be made a big difference.

+1!!!!!
With a tune you would want to set that at a maximum of 7K just for safety. What tuner would even allow the motor to rev to 7500?
Anyway, I thought a basically stock 70 455ci T/A would be running low 14s unless there was some other mods done. If that was the case, that Cobra was not moving well at all.

biggest thing holding the car back is the close ratio M21 (which just blew up) because I put 3.23 gears in the rear so I could cruise with it nicely down the highway at 70 mph. but with the close ratio trans with it's 2.2:1 1st gear I can pull 60+ mph out of 1st gear. so it's either bog or burn. going to work on that now.

cobra gears 3.37 1.99 1.33 1.00 0.67 with 4.10 final
t\a gears 2.2:1, 1.64:1, 1.27:1, and 1:1 with 3.23 final
I had DR's on the 455 and it was almost worse. just tortured the clutch. so that wouldn't have helped at all.

you are a shitbag. that trans am is not.
seems to run good for its age.
I built a 68 trans am ram air 400 for a friend in Clarksville that ran better than the vettes and 5.0's of its day...ie 1990ish. his stripper girlfriend destroyed the car a short while after I returned it to him.

its been too long to remember the details about the engine, but i dont recall it having double valve springs. certainly don't remember the head details. it was an automatic car and i converted it to HEI. dark green. i remember being scared to scratch the original paint.

it's actually not a "stock" 455 ho. I said that for laymens reasons. it's a forged stroked 400 (same bore and stroke as stock 455 but the block is stronger) mildly ported 1970 455HO #64 heads ( D port, not the more desired round port), 3 tube headers, Q jet, roller valve train with mild cam. all tuned by me including the carb. (I actually like Q jets) biggest thing holding the car back is the close ratio M21 (which just blew up) because I put 3.23 gears in the rear so I could cruise with it nicely down the highway at 70 mph. but with the close ratio trans with it's 2.2:1 1st gear I can pull 60+ mph out of 1st gear. so it's either bog or burn. going to work on that now.
I'm kidding. Sucks about your tranny, the hobby of constant fixing. I get mad every time I see your cars because I like them all. Makes it harder to argue with you

lol thanks Sean. yeah it sucks about the trans. but now i'll just build it the way I want it now. ultimately I would like a Richmond 5 speed in it. we'll see.

Race him again after the trans is built. It looks as thought you will pull on him based on that last race.

I think it will, but I'm keeping this car on street tires. I only intended it to be a cruiser hence the mild engine build. As far as I can tell it's around a mid 13 second car at 106 ish mph.

On a better note I think it's just fine to do what you did with the car a 455 was the first thing I ever worked on just in Oldsmobile form we have a motor in the garage back home that pushed a boat cutlass to a 12.20 at 106-107 back in the 90s cam, carb and intake with some roller rockers is all it had lol

You mean someone on the Hio crew built a mild car instead of doing all the right bolt ons first I think according to your higher ups you're doing it all wrong
