Default Evo8 vs (bolt on) 01 trans am

I came across a guy with an Evo 8 last night at the local hangout spot where all the racers usually go. He claimed it to make 400hp to the tires and he called me out to race.. couldn't back down at that point. I was on drag radials (nt555r). Figuring it being an Evo and all wheel drive he would want to do a dig, no he wanted to do a 30 roll I was a little confused on that part. I figured it was probably in his power band and where his turbo spooled up fastest. The evo was cammed,e85,full exhaust with his boost set on 30 psi(stock turbo) and full suspension and tuned. My t/a has pace setter 1 7/8 long tubes full 3' exhaust and slp intake and tuned with some sticky tires and a short throw shifter 6 speed ls7 clutch ( I told him it was just exhaust and good tires). We go out and he honks it off I instantly put a half car on him and he stays right their the whole time right at my driver door we raced from 30-105 got him by a half car at the end. When we get back he claims his turbo wasn't making full boost he said it only got to 25psi. I don't know if he was just a little hurt inside that he lost to the (exhaust only t/a) or what and coming up with typical excuses like most people do at that spot do or what but I was pretty proud of my t/a that night.

A 400whp Evo should definitely pull on a bolt on Fbody, so that's good for you lol.

Good kill!

im inclined to believe him, or he has a garbage tune. and a little known fact, evo's have glass transmissions especially when power is added. thats why guys usually get shep built trans or the like. good kill none the less.

Maybe he wasn't brake boosting. But not your fault.

In my car, I beat an Evo 10 with full bolt ons/upgraded turbo/93 pump making 420ish? wheel. On E85 he would get me by a very small margin.

I don't think that kid knew exactly what his car had or was just pulling stuff out of his *** to make it sound fancy like the typical ricer.

Either way, good kill.

From this point on thats all youll ever say. Doesnt matter if you have a blown HCI stroker under the hood. Rule #1 of owning an LS motor.

Have you been beat buy some?

Good kill OP. I would guess he was probably closer to 350-370 whp.

Glass transmissions? Gonna have disagree with that especially from a wrx owner. "Fact" lol. Maybe the transfercase but even that holds twice the power a wrx trans holds.

I doubt an EVO 8 was making that much power... I'd actually guess 340-350whp if I were a betting man. Regardless, good kill.

maybe a wrx, not an sti. and yes the evos have glass transmissions, why do you think shep is doing so well? the sti weak point is the motor the evo is the trans. go do some research. both are ok until you start coming close to about 400-450. then its all borrowed time. just like the 4l60. there are guys making 600+whp on stock sti trans fyi

I have had both, I had a bug eye wrx, forester xt, 06 sti and still own an 06 evo...making more than double the tq from the factory since I bought it in 06. Multiple drag strip outings, plenty of street races and plenty of auto x's and I've never had an issue...in fact there used to be a ton of evo and wrxs out here, any wrx with anything larger than an ihi turbo now has a ppg gear set, while just about all the evo's here are still on stock trans with the exception of my friends 8 second evo... I know what the stock sti trans will hold hence why I said wrx, I've seen more people making 600+ whp without replacing so much as synchros in evos.

Shep, jacks, tre are doing well because there's a bunch of people making 800+ whp these days in evos and also the fact that they've all crossed over into gtr trans services.

ive personally watched 2 evo's shred the trans. one was making 415awhp the other was around 460awhp. as far as the wrx trans, the ratio's blow ***** too begin with, thats why most people switch to the 06 trans. along with the standard "i just blew 4th"
