I ran an 01 5-speed, 3:73s, CAI, Bassani X-Pipe, Flowmasters (Thats all Im aware of..we chatted breifly after our run...)

I have a 1995 Z28 Auto and the following was done, decked heads, 2200 Stall, Manual Valvebody, Stage II Shift Kit, 3:42 Auburn, 3inch SS Catback, Flowmaster Series 80. (Just like to mention with these mods, and a bad Knock Sensor/Opti I lost to a 98 SS A4 by a car length from dead stop to 110mph less than a month later)

Believe me the guy could shift like a ****.. He barked 1~2 shift, and 2~3.. I got him back to my rear bumper at about 70.. I was slowly starting to pull him past that point and let off...

Gears really wake those cars up!

Here is the reason this was even close.
You were shifting before or right at peak power..

I was WTF'ing at the fact that you were only able to hold off a light bolt on GT by a car or so ... you should have ripped him up. I ran dead even with a s/c'd GT when I was a light bolt-on car ... it takes them ALOT to hang with an LS1 .... a lot more then that guy had.

When I had just gears and a couple of bolt ons I could almost always hold an LS1 off till around 70mph. Then of coarse the cubic inches started taking their couse and I only got further behind as speeds increased But later with 269rwhp I was able to keep a 1 car lead over a WS6 till 100mph. It takes a stang less hp to produce similar times.

That is true, but I know a guy around here with the exact same setup as the 'Stang he raced, and he's only running 13.8s on DRs... maybe his car is just a dog?

Then again my friend ahs a '98 GT with just PI heads and cams, h-pipe/catback and just totally smoked my other friend in his stock LT1.. so I'd figure he's in mid 13s.

Ahh.. ego bustin time... If a 99+ (romeo?) was S/Cd he would tear your *** up. If a 96~98 Gt is S/C They run 13s / High 12s?? I think the normal is 13s though. HUGE difference. BTW, with my combo Ive pulled on SEVERAL stock LS1 cars. You guys dont all run 12s out of the box. The New GTs stock run with stock LT1s. Modded its the same deal..NO ONE is safe. Gears wake those engines up. In fact Autos run 4:10s and are very tolerable. The 4.6Ls love to rev, but are just disadvantaged from the factory.

Sometimes it's the driver and sometimes it's the car. You never really know what your going to get. I will have to say I have won and lost many races against all types of Ls1's and Lt1's but most of the time I own first and second but come third, if I am going to lose that is where the smack down happens.

In response to the original post...yes, you would have beat him up a little more if you'd shift at 6k. Things would have gotten worse for him if you would have kept in it a little longer as well...

What gear did you start in? If it wasn't first, you were in the wrong gear. I think most GT's would not that close, but ya never know 'til you run.

For perspective, my '01 Z-28 pulled an intake/exhaust, 100 shot 5speed by 2-3 cars from a 60 roll to 110 with a lid and cutout.

Later,
Dave

Im not going to start a war or flame but xplain how that possible? Its not if you look at power to weight. A lightly modded GT w/ 100shot should be putting well over 350rwhp. If I also recall the GT is a lil lighter, correct me if Im wrong. He may have had a 100 shot but wasn't spraying it. I know how powerfull LS1 are 3 of my friends have them and I may be picking up a 02m6 z in a week (can't wait but I wanted a ws6).But like I had mensioned the power to weight it don't sound possible unless he wasn't spraying. Im not saying the GT is fast as hell and can hang w/ an ls1 cause it cant not enough power, but im telling ya now a intake xhaust, gear and nittos it will hang. I have beaten 2 LS1s and 1 with lid/ cutouts w/ my car before the custom tune and a few mods, on the vortech tune I made 352rwhp. With 352hp I ran from him hard.
