I wasn't driving my TA but I figure a good rice kill is worth a few grins. I was returning from Lowes in my '85 Chevy G20 conversion van after bying an aircompressor. I'm headed home on 301 in Crofton,MD when I'm passed by a pack of ricers w/ neon & fart pipes graphics - (the whole fast & furious scene). Anyhow I'm bored so I decide to follow them for a while and I realize they are headed to Capitol Raceway. I haven't been in a while and I just finished the rebuild on this van so I buy a ticket & watch for awhile. It wasn't long before the bug bit and I had to make at least 1 pass to see what she could do. Now realize I'm at 5500lbs plus an air compressor, all my tools & class II/IV trailer hitch inside that i recently picked up (prob 500lbs of stuff). Didn't matter though - I had the bug! Anyhow, I get line and survey the scene. Lots of rice tonight (Fri) w/ the usual 5.0/4.6's & a few F-bodys & a few muscle cars & a couple serious race cars. Anyway It's finally my turn to stage & to my amazement, the same low green w/ graphics high wing big can UFO rice mobile lines up next to me. I look over and see the monster tach, fire ext, racing seats & belts & figure he's going to eat my lunch so at least I could cut a good light on em. I pull up the b/o box power brake the van & put on a one legged smoke show,PEP boys specials doing there finest . I see eveyone looking saying WTF!! I put down my soda & stage - the ricer next to me stages half a car lenght in front of me (rear tires in the beam) poor SOD dosn't have a clue. Eventually track officle get him to backup & stage and I concentrate on cutting a light. I footbrake the beast & on the last yellow I leave on em. She bogs a little initally then cleans out and pulls hard -winding out 1st, shifth my Art Carr built TH400 into 2nd -chirrrrrp- still don't see him. Keep my foot burried-tach out 2nd-hit 2&a half (Gear venders) -chirp and run it out the top end. starting to get a driveline vibe now so I let up never seeing the other car. Looking at my speedo its buried (85+) I return to pick-up my ET & I get some thumbs up & some from spectators (made my day). I get my slip and see a .503 vs. .769 light! A 14.1@103 vs. 15.66@92- sweet!!! a got a chance to check out the other car-it was an eclipse- couldn't tell w/ the body kit & all (all show-no go). BTW I have a stroked 30 over SBC (388) w/ Dart Pro1 heads, cam (serious lope) ,11:1 comp, headers & 3" duals, built TH400, & Holly 850DP - all handicapped by a stock (tight) converter & open rear w/ 3.23 gears. All good for a few grins - big time sleeper, hauls 8 friends! P.S got to get some gears (4:56) & some stall
