I'll start. As this is just going one way or the other. Opinion I guess. Say a person has a SBE ls1. He is going to spray a nice shot at it so he disassembles the engine. Files down/re gaps the rings & reassembles. Would you still just call it a stock bottom end?

In my eyes this is considered a stock bottom end with regapped rings for life expectancy. It's still 100% stock parts just adjusted to work better. In my eyes it's no different than changing timing. If you make more power with better timing on stock parts why wouldn't u

With re gapped rings.
True. When someone says "stock motor" the last thing I think of is the motor even being out of the car. Much less disassembled, modified/adjusted parts, & re assemble with new/upgraded hardware/parts. Someone saying "a stock bottom end, with new bearings, regapped rings, & upgraded hardware & gaskets". I see no problem.
About rockers. My experience was that about 25 years ago they were considered a bolt on. As now some of the "bolt on" lists do not allow after market rocker arms. To me it's just whoever is making the rules. As "must have stock rocker arms" or "aftermarket, different ratio, rocker arms allowed."
So how about this one. Seeing as my block is actually a 5.3 alum. block. Is it ok to just call it a 5.3? It's only modified a little bit from stock but no reason to tell?

Stock means stock, exactly as it rolled off the showroom floor. The only exception to this is wear items such as tires, air filters, spark plugs, etc, and you can only call it stock if you've replaced those with a stock equivalent. My camaro is stock, the only thing I've done is add a coat of wax. When you're talking about filing rings, or adding a cutout, or modifying the intake, or changing timing, or bypassing the TB heater, etc, then it's no longer stock.

lol ya you mean the one that hasn't passed water between the block and head deck for what 10 years or so now. I wonder sometimes if these idiots actually think about what they are saying and how much it truly detracts from the Engine Program and R&D they put into that effort.

If they say "stock" block & heads go after em. Or do you just mean when "factory" furd block & heads is used? Meaning not aftermarket & have a furd stamp on them with whatever work/mods done.
