Default 01 Stang Walked

Ok guys this one has some history. It all began when I was in high school. I had just painted my 85 Z-28, black with two yellow rally stripes. I looked fast but wasn't (carb 305=160 hp) but I still loved my first ride. Well anyways one day I pulled up next to a buddy of mine with 01 GT droptop. He said "lets run" and "im like yeah but youll smoke me". So we run and of course the 3rd gen gets smoked like a pound. (There nice cars but the 80's wasnt a good decade for American cars guys) Well fast foward about a year and half later to last weekend. Ive had my 93 TransAm since December (still untested by me), and Im just cruising around and I happen to meet up with my old buddy with the GT again at some car hang out spot or something. Well him and his car club or whatever they were said there gonna go some place to do a little street racen and he was like "follow me". Well we were comin on to IH35 from the frontage road going about 40-45 mph so I drop into 2nd thinkin "payback time" . I pull up beside on 35 and give him a nod and its on like Donkey Kong! (I always sport shift the A4 when racing) I immediately get about a car length on him by the time I reach 60-65 mph. We go all the way down 35 to William Cannon(about 7-8 miles). We even pass up a 350z who tries to jump in. But we"re already goin about 110 and he was just going about 75-80 but I heard his engine rev up as we passed him for like a millesecond. (plus later his car club budds who were following told us the 350 tried in vain to join) Well I end up hitting about 135-140 and leaving him pretty far back before i slow down and exit William Cannon felling very good with my revenge. Sorry if it was a little long guys but this one had some history, and oh yeah a moral...

"Paybacks a beyaatch!!!!!"

Good kill, but there is no need to sport shift a 4L60E, the tranny shifts quicker and doesn't have that pause (unless you have a shift kit) Just stick her in 3rd and hold on!!

Nice Kill

And even better for revenge

Sounds like the 93 is definately quicker and I am sure you will have allot of fun with it.

Hopefully your next will be a 98+ LS1 F-Body

The transmission is hydrualic not electronic so there is no sport mode or cruise mode like the 94 trans am and on. Actually I just put some edlebrock headers on it and lookin for a good cam and possibly a 52 or 54 tb afterwards. Id really like to get a good set of heads for it but I dont really have $1500 to spend on heads, so cam is the cheaper route.

So puttin it in 3rd is faster than leaving it in drive while racing?

Nice kill, I owned a 93Z and compared to my GT it was a little slower only cause I can launch my GT much better. But both cars felt very close in stock form.

Since we are both in Austin, let me know when you are ready to step up to the Mach. Also racing on IH35 is absolutly RETARDED, ESPECIALLY near that area.

He's correct, 92-93 LT1s have the 4L60 automatic tranny, which shifts hydraulically instead of electronically. As far as shifting yourself, I don't really know, I've never driven a car with a 4L60.

Edelbrock headers are total garbage, I'd say get rid of them ASAP and sell them for some good longtubes (jethots or some custom made kooks) and make sure you don't go with a BBK 52mm TB. Check out the LT1 section on that cam choice if you have a chance.

I got a real good deal on the headers and I know I wouldnt get the same kinda gain that I would out of some traditional longtubes, but edelbrocks are better than the stock manifolds.

nice kill, i've had similar revenge stories but most of them are, my car wasn't running right and the friend knew it but we raced anyways, then when things were right we raced again and i beat them.
