Default Encounter with a Mach1

Pulled up to a red light with a lot of traffic and there was a nice looking blue Mach1 (looks great with the black wheels) in the lane to my left. He looked right over at me as I pulled up so I figured it was on (I was hoping).

Once he got a clearing he took off really fast and put some distance between himself and the traffic I was stuck in. I was like damn, another pretender that doesn't really want to race. Never the less I did a bit of weaving to get out of the jam and catch him. But when I got out from the traffic there he was, waiting for me about 30 yards ahead

I think we were doing around 35-40 because I put it in first as I rolled up to him and was almost at redline. I put it back into second and we both took off (I think I got a slight jump on him). From halfway through second to near the top of third (not quite all the way) I put about 2-3 cars on him.

I put on the brakes hard (doing 70-80 in a 35 aint good), and no flyby.

At the next light I said "your car is pretty fast". And he said the same then asked me what mods I have. I told him I had an air lid and a cutout. He asked me if I ever dynoed my car and I told him I don't know how much power I'm making but it's probably around 310-315. he told me he's making about the same and that his car must weigh more than mine. I told him I was pretty sure my car weighs more than his (SLP SFCs, 17x9.5 on all 4, etc. plus Camaros are heavier already). Our conversation was cut off by the light turning green.

The road ahead had a curve but right after that we took off again (middle of 1st). I'm pretty sure we got aN even start this time and I had a good 1-2 shift (barked nicely) and put about 1-2 cars on him by the top of 2nd then put the brakes on (another curve in the road).

That was our last race and he waved on his turn off. Cool guy, nice car and great races (though I think he's slightly off on some of his info).

Nice kill, those mach 1's are pretty cool. I'm pretty sure Mach 1's are rated around 305 at the crank and they run mid-high thirteens stock.

I still haven't seen one in person. Everyone around here drives F-bodies or the GT—as far as domestics go.

By the way 01whitez28– good kill. It's always nice to put a win on the Blue Oval.

It's a little silly, really. I'm thinking A) rich folks have snapped them up & stuck 'em in garages or B) Ford hates our local dealerships. The city has around 300K folks, so it's not like I'm in a tiny area...

Nice kills,

Thinking about it, I've only seen maybe a few Mach 1s and maybe two or three newer Cobras around this neck of the neighborhood. Didn't have the chance to race any though : ( However, there is an over abundance of GTs everywhere--some guys, but mostly kids and old ladies drive them around here.

I think they typically dyno around 280-290 rwhp and 300-310 rwtq.

They have slightly more aggressive gearing (3.55) and tranny ratios (manual, don't know about autos).

I stand corrected on their weight though. According to a quick internet search they weigh around 3450 lbs (I thought they were around 100 lbs lighter than Camaros). So my car probably weighs just a bit more than his.

They're quick MFers. Especially considering the little 4.6. Those are what the GTs should've been (maybe I'd never have gone to the darkside if so) but I don't give a **** now because I love my LS1.

You'll put a hurtin on a stock one... stock for stock its not so much as a drivers race as if the mach 1 drivers perfect and the ls1 slips a bit the mach will win. dead even driving the ls1 wins every time.

Good Kill man. Its just the other way around down here.. I see LS1 camaro's and TA's all the time but not one of then ever want to run... I don't know what gives.. My car is very quiet almost stock sounding untill I get on it then it comes to life... I would like to run some of the LS1 guys but there isn't too many takers.. I hardly ever see Mach1's or newer cobras my self aroun here. The only time I see them is at the track and I know most of the drivers..

There were 9 or 10 Mach 1's that showed up in SA for midnight madness and the only one I raced ran a low 14. I have a lid, filter, catback, nothin special and I was spinning like crazy out of the hole with horrible 60 foots (2.3's) where he jumped ahead and I had a couple cars by the end running a 14.00. From a stop, they are a great race for my car. I would imagine from anything but a dig, I would pretty much waste what I assume had to be a stock Mach 1.
Good kill, btw
Dan03 - sounds like you would give me a little more trouble

I think it would be a great race on the street with a stcok ls1, but seing that ws6t/a has QTP's, suspension, and nitto's..... Mach1 wouldn't even be able to read his back license plate after a couple seconds
