Default Carrera run

Last night, my buddy and I went out to "feel" my car after the trans had been rebuilt. While we were out we come up to this intersection and make a right, to head back to his place. Well he sees a Mustang GT and wants me to play with it. "Is that a Mustang" he says "slow down". I do and wait for it to pass and get the jump, it doesn't even after I blip the throttle. So I tell him "See, since I got the headers and converter, no one dares challenge me" As I let off, this blue Carrera gives me the same, quick blip of the throttle. I'd guess a 1999 +/-, kinda looked like the new one without the big rear wing and scoops on the sides. We couldn't believe a Carrera wanted to play. My buddy's turn off was coming up, but he said "keep going, I wanna see this". I stayed two car lengths behind and to the right of the Porsche, he was behind another car. This was a two lane street. The mustang was behind the Porsche. I wanted him to move in front of me and then we could run. That didn't happen, so I go WOT. Just before I get next to him, I let off. As I pass him, I give him another blip. This time he bites and gets behind me, to pass the car in front of him. We are now approching an intersection, where in about 500' the lanes merge to one and go up into the twisties. I am not going to race him there though, my suspension is not yet setup for that. My buddy tells me up ahead the lanes merge to one and I should try and get the jump. I didn't know about the two going into one. I look back in the rear view, then to my driver mirror. That's when I see he already took the jump. I floor it when he is just pasted my fender. He gets to a car in front and my converter flashes to 5000 rpms. He is now not gaining any ground, but loosing ground every so slowly. By the time the lanes merge I am up his bumper and let off. He must of kept on it, or was busy looking at me, that he took the next right hand curve too wide. We turned around and headed home. I am very surprised my SS can "take out" a Carrera. Oh by the way, the mustang quickly disappeared once he saw my car jump, he wanted none of that.

If it was, in fact, a Porsche, then it would have had to be a Turbo because the Carrera does not have the side scoops as you described. The Carrera does have an optional Aerokit, which will give you the big wing and ground effects, but the side scoops are specific to the Turbo. And I know you did not beat a 996 Twin Turbo unless he wasn't racing and you only thought he was. Anyway, I'm sure that any Carrera you would come across would not be a chore to hang with if not beat. With that said, happy motoring and be safe.

turbo's run like a 12.5-12.6 stock. And thats mainly to the AWD launch. I think a camaro running 12.8 could give a turbo a run

Well SSpeed, I don't know where you saw the Turbos running mid 12's stock, but I myself have driven a Turbo many times and I know that it is faster than my ZO6 that I ran low 12's in. I've read that the new Turbo is very easily capable of running low 12's to high 11's with a skilled driver.

When the TURBO was introduced in the US. They gave a 1/4 run with Paul Tracy, and Jimmy Vaser behind the wheel as one of their road tests. It ran a 12.68@115 mph. The Mclrn F1 runs a 11.7 stock. Id love to see an awd car (awd cars are good for 0-60 but the awd slows the car down in the 1/4) run high 11's..

I ran a new 911 turbo with my LE when it was still bone stock. We ran one time through 3rd and he had me by about a car at the end of the gear where we shut down. I checked up on them to see how my race could have been so close. Well, apparently there is a big acceleration difference between the auto and the manual. Here's the car I raced that night " http://www2.us.porsche.com/english/u...ns/default.htm ". If you notice, the Tiptronic times are substantially slower than the manual. I'll bet you ran a Tiptronic like I did (unless your car runs in the 11's). Nice run. I want a rematch with one now that I have a little more power and the gears. Although I know I would still get walked by the manual.

He said it was without the big wing and scoops on the sides. So it had no scoops. It was a NA version.

The N/A Porshe's don't have much chance. Yea they come 320hp stock, but LS1's have a lot more tourq.
Plus later model F-bodies are underrated. I had 308RWHP 100% stock.

In a strait line race, Carrera get smoked

Maybe THIS can help determine what he raced or not. Questions should be answered easily here...
