Check out my dad's Syclone. His mods are: larger turbo, headers, 3inch down pipe dumped under the cab, larger intercooler, Vig converter(I think 3000), High perf. GM cam, Speed pro, stock spec Oliver rods and Wiseco pistons. Heads are stock and have not been ported, polished, or milled! This is an old video but he is still out in full force. He was last at a track in Sept. 2001 and ran 11.5 @ 118. http://www.racingflix.com/downloadvideo.asp?v=232

i think that guy had some mods to that thing. i used to have a 95 z28 (col air, exhaust). i had a friend (actually his dad) with a syclone (sp?) he said that he wanted to race me one day, so went over to his house and we went out to a straight away. we went from a dig and we were even from the start until i hit 3rd gear, and i barely started pulling. about that time, there were some parked cars in front of him so he let off. i would race ls1's and get my *** spanked maybe his was a turd or something, but the lt1 stayed dead even with him. and like someone said above, the syclone was lighter. and they are automatic (atleast the one i raced), so all it is, is stab and steer. i figured a ws6 would kill that thing. i personally think he has mods. just my 2 cents. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

sounds like both trucks are running like ***.

a stock syclone, with just a good chip, and other basic things (thermostat, some heater hose, and a paper clip) should run 12.3x to 13.3x, at 101 to 106 mph.

depends on a lot of things, and 95% of the ones you see on the street are in poor tune, and wont break the 15s, and if they don't launch it too, it wont see 13s.

I have a friend here in St. Pete that has a very rare Marlboro Syclone (there were only 10 made) The differences in this truck from the other syclones was mostly appearances. his only mods to the truck have been removing the cat, and playing with his tuning and his truck is currently turning 13.0 in the 1/4. I have hear of some running all the way into 9's.

I'll tell you this about turbo cars- even the hardest charging turbo cars have trouble with consistent reaction times. In order to get a GN, Ty, or Syclone to run hard out of the hole you have to brake-torque them to XX amount of boost, without breaking the tires loose and then side step the brake before overboosting or breaking the tires loose. This is pretty hard to time on a turbo car 'cause they usually build boost real quick once the turbo starts to spool. It's easier in the AWD versions cause it's harder to break the tires loose, but Typhoons and Syclones like to break the prop shaft on hard launches so most owners don't want to launch with boost "peaked". If you want a little advantage- push them on the start- rush up to the "staging area" and get the race off quick- if they dont hit the boost just right, they'll likely bog with low bost, spin the tires (a lot less likely in a Sy or Ty), or break (prop shaft).

You don't really have to worry about any of that with a sy/ty unless it's modded. With the AWD, you don't have to worry about the tires spinning unless the truck's heavily modified. Therefore side-stepping the brake isn't necessary. As far as prop-shafts go, they will only break if the truck has many HARD launches on it. I've only taken my truck to the track a few times just to see what it'd do, but I didn't have any trouble keeping my reaction times and 60' times consistant. (BTW, reaction times have nothing to do with how well your vehicle hooks). I've managed .5 - .6 reaction times and 1.9 60' times with an 8.9 sec 1/8th. They don't break as easily as you would think. It's like any other vehicle. If you run it hard a lot, things will break.

I see your point on the breakage with the Ty's I guess the launch / Reaction time issues are more common with GN's (I've only driven a ty about 5-6 times).
