Busted by the cops
I'm down with street racing, but what I hate is when people do it in traffic; people who drive irresponsibly as such deserve what they have coming for them. That said, read on only if you feel like reading one such story.
Today I was coming back from class and was headed South on I-45 (for all you Hous10 people). Some kid in a brand new single cab 1500 Dodge Ram is right behind me, and starts tailgating me all the way out of the college parking lot. So we both head out and get on I-45. Now keep in mind we're in the middle of a pack of traffic around 1:30pm, so the roads are hardly empty. Anyway, we get beside a Shenandoah Police cruiser, so he keeps it pretty civil (up until now he had been weaving in and out of tiny holes in traffic on the feeder road). Anyway, the cop takes the first exit, and I stay in the right hand lane. He decides to take off and resume his normal crazy driving by trying to cut me off (another one of his desperate lane changing maneuvers). Now keep in mind my truck is in the shop, so I'm just driving the '99 Suburban - no mods. Anyway, I give it some gas and hold around 80mph so he can't get in front of me. Now there's a lot of traffic around us and 18wheeler's everywhere so he starts weaving in and out of traffic so he can come out in front. I was in the far right hand lane which was completely clear, and we both ended up emerging from the pack of traffic at the same time. He takes off and I decide to see if I can keep up, so we both are driving pretty much side-by-side at 100mph, I hit the governor, and he kept going. We then came up on another pack of traffic, I slowed down to 70mph and stayed in the right hand lane. Anyway he continues to drive around 115mph (my guess, it was def. over 100) through this next huge pack of traffic. Now as soon as the previous cop had exited I knew that the Shenandoah cop wasn't the only one on the road. They often like to space out 2-3 cars about a mile apart, so that was the purpose of flooring it between these two packs of traffic: I had a good feeling there was another cop up ahead in the next pack, and I was right. If you live around here, you know Shenandoah police are like little minions of the anti-Christ. They love to keep radar off and hide beside 18wheelers in the middle of large packs of traffic just waiting for someone to cruise by, they hit the Instant On, clock you in milliseconds, and you're scewed. As I emerged from the second pack of traffic I didn't see my little crazy friend whizzing around in his new pickup, so I headed over to the left hand lane and could see him on the far left shoulder pulled over, with a Shenandoah Police cruiser behind him with lights flashing. hahaha
Yes, I know that sounds pretty mean, but I'm sure we've all raced the occasional idiot and hoped to set them up with a cop around the corner, maybe hit the brakes and let him go by. And in essence, that's what I did. I hope he learned his lesson, and maybe his ticket for 45+over, will teach him not to drive recklessly in traffic.

You are an idiot!
First you speed "while in traffic" to keep this guy from getting in front of you! Then you race him "while in traffic" for what ever reason, in your suburban. What was the point of this story? You made your self look like a fool. Stay in school.........

Marcell 1500, I don't see where you get off saying I'm an idiot. If you'll read the paragraph close enough you'll see that it was on a long straight-away between two packs of traffic in which we "raced", if you're arrogant enough to call it that - I don't see anywhere in the paragraph where I called it that. Second, if the fact that a very irresponsible driver was caught for breaking the law upsets you, then get the f___ out of my thread. I said in two short sentences before the story what I was about to say, and if you didn't like it, not to read on. Therefore, you clearly have shouldn't. If you really think I'm an idiot, then state why you disapprove of my driving actions in a cogent manner and we'll have a mature conversation about it. Until then I suggest you shut up, becuase you have yet to bring a cogent, must less coherent argument to this board.
AshF, I'm hardly a holier-than-thou type. And if you happened to hang out with me, you'd know it. But it's cool, this is merely an internet forum where a variety of ideas from varous socioeconomic and geopolitical backgrounds can come together, and that's the part that makes it cool. I don't hold anything against ya, but I do want to clarify I'm not that sort of guy. I don't say that as a feeble attempt to make you go back on your words, but rather as a humble afterthought to anyone who would take the story differently.
Like I said in the story, the whole deal was that he was not just driving stupidly, he was being very irresponsible - it's people like this who get in or cause major accidents - accidents to which people like me must respond to and save lives, oftentimes lifeflighting them.
That said, I'm always down for a good race as long as it's done responsibly. I've been a member here for a while, and hung around much before that. 99% of the people on this board who either from speaking with or actually hanging out with are pretty cool people. I just hope this story I've posted won't be misconstrued in an innapropriate manner. I'd love to meet, race, and hang out with you guys sometime...I'm always down for fun and good times.
Take Care,
Matt
PS: If you're curious about details of the story, or honestly have some serious concerns, feel free to drop me a PM send me an email, I'd be happy to speak with you about it.

("I'm down with street racing, but I hate when people do it in traffic.") Who isn't and who doesn't do it? (I give it some gas and hold it around 80.) Model citizen, real smart, this guy is driving like an idiot and now I'm gonna drive like an idiot too. (Now theres alot of traffic and 18 wheelers everywhere) A big gap in traffic on 45 at lunch time, I'm sure. (I was in the right lane which was clear, while he was swerving in traffic keeping up) I'm down with street racing, but I hate when people do it in traffic. (I speed to try to keep up) You are as guilty as him you just didn't get caught!
Don't let this rub you the wrong way man. It is just my opinion. I don't agree with some of the things you said that is all. I'm sure we'll cross paths some time and when we do I'll buy you a beer and we can argue about it more then. Take it easy man. Keep racing in traffic just keep your wits about you. Peace man.......

IMHO i don't like to street race in traffic. i dont condone and i dont do it. i will not slam some one else for it either. it your actions YOU have to answer for not me. i am not slamming on anyone in this thread , we are all adults here. i think he got what he deserved. people like that bring out the aggression in all of us. we all get ticked when somebody does these things to us while driving. he was an *** and got burned .end of story and can only hope he learned something from it.

I had a similiar incident one day coming home from work.
I was just cruising along in the lane next to the fast lane with NO ONE around.(four lane highway) It was clear all around for about a mile in front and behind me when this frickin idiot in a Ford pickup truck comes ROLLING up behind me and damn near clips my back bumper as he gets in the fast lane. Remember this guy had a mile to get over but, instead he runs right up on me and nearly hits me before getting over. He was going alot faster than I was also. I was kinda pissed so I took off and blew past him and I look in my rearview and he's waving his hands and clapping like saying "WOW..You just beat a Ford pickup in your SS Camaro".(Sarcastic like) So he blast back past me and I keep pace just slightly behind him for a while. Then as we get into a stretch of road with more entrances traffic starts to pick up. I slow down and this idiot starts blasting through traffic, cutting people off and just generally being dangerous. I see an unmarked Impala over in the third lane so I slow way down and watch this Pickup pull some crazy manuevers right infront of the cop.
Bam, on go the red and blues and the cop pulls the guy over on the right hand shoulder. I was far enough back that I had time to get over in the right hand lane. I just threw my hand up and waved at the guy as I passed. Damn that felt good seeing that guy get pulled over.
pushtheextreme - It feels good to see someone get pulled over that deserves it, doesn't it.

I would do the same thing, I hate the jackass's who drive like hardass's, zippin in and out of traffic, when its a 2 lane road its the best..when ever they want to pass, just speed up...and its the best when you give them the window, they take it away...and repeat as necessary....
Here's one more for ya...There was an old Ford pick-up riding my bumper, trying to egg me on. I could hear that he had somethin' under his hood. I was in a 81 Camaro and I knew he could hear my 400 RHS motor. We're headed up the onramp to I-91 with me leading. He was just itching to have a go. Traffic filled all lanes of the highway. Had there been no traffic, I would have taken him. However, I made the right choice and let him fly by me as he cut across three lanes of traffic and almost killed a family or two.
I know it's really hard sometimes to have self-control(especially then!), but I wasn't about to risk anyone's life to "win" a race, or show someone up. Think first, grasshopper....

XLR8NSS - heh, funny story. sounds like a bunch of people can identify with it. yes you're right, it does feel great to see him get pulled over.
now that i've got my truck back and the hypertech back on, i'm hoping i'll get to see him around town sometime; maybe even get in a good safe race and hand him his butt. if he moves anything like he did last time, he'll be one easy kill.
