Watch out for old Corollas.

Watch out for old Corollas.
I dont know if i mentioned this before but i had a run-in with an 84-85ish rear drive corolla. Neons, fart can, all that good stuff. Appeared to be just another ricer. We are cruising around 65-70 and he looks like he wants to do something, i figure lets do this ****. I had a long trip ahead of me (heading up to long island) and it would only make it a go by a litlle faster. My friend is in the car with me and we both dont believe in fast imports (except at MIR). The guy is flipping his damn headlights up and down and ****, plus there was a little traffic and it was around midnight on i-95.
Anyways, i floor it, i go from 70ish to around 135 looking around for some green neons on this trash import, cant find him in my mirror, he must be gone...NO, THE BITCH IS NECK AND NECK WITH ME. I couldnt even hear his fart can so i'm scared to say that he might not have been giving it everything. Afterwards, me and my friend just stared at the lines on the road in disbelief. My car is all stock ,but i didnt even realize those corollas could do more than 90. I guess thats just my closed-minded ***.
Needless to say me and my friend go on a rant about how the guy must have had a big shot or turbos or something, well he had something, and the ****** had my respect for the 15 minutes after that.

the corollas, depending on model could have up to 160hp in the states...if it has a jdm swap...watch out, 16v or 20v heads with turbo from the factory...after slight modding can generate some serious hp.

The Corolla FX-16 comes to mind as the quick one from the factory. Decent power in a little car, alum wheels, ground effects all factory. Disconnect the power steering and put a hose (naws) on it and it could be quick...

well..stop being closed minded? do you live in a closet or something? never heard of DSMs, rx7, supras, 300zx, skylines. evos, sti.....there are a lot of imports..that are fast stock...let alone when you modify them. the amount of engines that can be swapped into those old corrolas is amazing.

yeah just google surch for 86.. the carolla gts was the same as the sprinter trueno, for all you initial d fans.
They are light, rwd with decent weight over the rear wheels so they are drifting macheenes. As for the toyota AE86 (thus the 86) has been a proven modder engine. heavy castings, closed deck (i think), and tones of after market parts makes it an ideal cantadate for a monster of a turbo. With all that being said i am still surpized that he kept up ... one hell of a car you ran agenst there!
Oh also toyota made a version of the engine called a "worlds" engine, forged every thing titanium valve train built to wind out to at least 11k rpm. they still use those engines in sprint cars.

There's a whole racing series that uses that little 1.6 liter.
