Default LS1 Smackdown!!!

I'm driving down Mercury Blvd. Wich is a popular road where I live, and it's about 1:30am in the morning. The streets are dead empty and for the most part at this hour I know for certain that the cops are o ut patrolling other roads. I'm cruising along going 45mph and I see this car running up pretty fast on my rear... he jumps around me when he gets to close, and jumps into the lane adjacent to me and keeps on going... only to slam his brakes at a yellow light that just turned red up ahead. AS I saw him go by I glanced over, and realized it was a fellow Camaro owner... I couldn't see if it was a V6, V8 or whatever till I got up close. When I finally made my way up to the light... I looked over and recognized the black & silver machined rims. It was a bright Red 35 Ann SS. I'm no fan of LS1's so I couldn't let him escape. I rolled my window down.. and yelled over to him... "Hey, You wanna run?!? Streets empty no cops for blocks" He looks over at me and starts reving the car... Cool... 6spd too. For some reason this light seemed long as hell. Whe nthe light hit green... he hit the pedal, and the car started slipped to the left. When he caught traction he took off... then I delayingly put my foot on the gas. (Making sure he got control of his car again). At this time he was about 1 car ahead of me... but it was no big deal. I shifted into second
(4:10's) and started making my way back on him. I saw his car bog... I guess he just did a 2nd gear shift also... I started realling up by his door... ... his car jumped again... 3rd gear for him... I was ending second at my 6.2K redline, and he wasn't passing me... he was only hanging with me and losing slowly. I hit 3rd.... and started creating distance on him like he was in a civic. My car started started gaining foot by foot... then yard by yard.. then the next thing I new he was a car behind me.... I shifted into 4th at 70 mph and put the car to work. I topped it out at 120 with 2 1/2 car lengths on him... with plenty more left on the motor... but the lights up ahead were turning yellow... I slowed my car down and it slid forward and my low traction light came on... I slid to a stop... at the red light and the SS caught up to me. "That was a hell of a run... he yelled out to me, What do you have done to your LS1?" I looked over at him and said "LS1!?! hell... this is an LT1" it just occured to me he never had a chance to see the front of my car... since he was in back the entire time. "LT1!?! That's a first for me... I've never lost to an LT1 before..." he said. I just looked over at him and pulled off as the light turned green.

Overall it was a good race, and I won.

Your LT1 is not stock if you beat a well driven LS1 in the upper speed. Your 6200rpm red-line is a testimony to your non-stockness....dont jade the story with ambiguity about your far from stock LT1...

Yes, thank-you. Couldn't agree more. What has been described is not possible stock vs stock; well unless my Grandmother was driving the LS1. The fact that the poster points out how much he dislikes LS1's in the story raises a flag in itself. Nice try though. Almost fooled me into wishing I had an LT1.......not!

obviously he was modded so what. What's probably more relevant is if the ls1 was modded too. Seemed like a fun race for both drivers, seems like its shameful losing to an lt1 while when modding takes place its fair game both motors are stout platforms. Better than the 4.6's and 5.0's right j/k

My car is not stock, the SS was not stock either

Yes this is Mercury in Hampton

It was a fair race... given the LS1 engines tunning he should of had the upper hand reguardless.

Not the same weight & more than just 4.10's; "shifting @ 6.2K". The whole topic is a pointless disscussion. Also agreed, when discussing LS1 & LT1, we are on the same team. Further, it was a good kill for the LT1. However, don't expect it to happen often.

you've got to be kidding me... I've never been worried about anyting that 98-02, and haven't lost to one yet, and don't plan too.

And my redline is actually 6300RPMs ... I just prefer shifting 100/1000 early.

The mistake that you people on here made is that you assumed that the top end of the LS1 would take me under... but what you didn't suspect is that my LT1 makes power down low, and uptop.

So what exactly do you have done to your LT1 to make it such the LS1 slayer you say it is?

Dyno numbers? Track times?

I don't have dyno numbers or track times... that I cannot lie about.

but the car performs as needed. It's V8 vs V8 exept one was rated with 25 more hp and tq from the factory. The solution come up with 25 more hp and Tq and problem solved.

Mods to date:

K&N Filter
Tornado air cleaner
Pine Tree Air Freshener
Pepboys dual 2 1/2inch muffler tips
Futura Ultra Z all weather tires

all the LS1 killer mods you need, when you have an LT1.

Your mods consist of a K&N drop in filter, some pepboys muffler....tips?, and some all around tires.

Wow, yeah I'd say that's pretty damn... hmmm. No it's not impressive at all. You've got less done to your car than I do... and you claim to be able to walk all over LS1's.

Hell, I don't even claim to walk all over LS1's. And I have one...

Your setup is probably good for what... Low 14s High 13s (maybe) if you're not a complete tool behind the wheel?

Don't get me wrong, I like the LT1's alot. Only reason why I didn't buy one is that I didn't want to get a car that was beat on for 10 years before I got my chance to beat on it.

Before you go mouthing off about LS1's being dogshit, make sure you can back it up with a fast car. Not something with a drop in filter and $20 mufflers...tips.

EDIT: I notice you didn't put down the 4.10s in your list of mods. You stated them in your story, but not in your mod list. Maybe from the time you raced to the time you posted you had them removed? 4.10s would wake up your LT1, but not enough to make such a huge difference in performance to give you the right to be an *** about everything. *2 cents*

My mates got a 68 RS SS LT1 stroked 383 forged int,big cam, balanced blue printed rot assy, ported polished heads, with all the right gear, now runs 4.10's viper m6. The car makes good power 560 fwhp.
But imagine doing all that work to an LS1 Imagine the power difference from the LT1 v LS1

Well it's a kill I guess.

I had 2 LT1's before my LS1. No way is the performance even close. If you say you don't worry about LS1's your heavily modded or happen to find stock LS1's everywhere.

Great low end on the LT1's, but that's where the buck stops against an LS1. At the track, sometimes I fall behind an LT1 at the 1/8th, but by the end it's "aloha to you" routinely.
