Pulled on a Viper? Ok, heres the scoop. I was out driving yesterday afternoon because it was a nice day and im sitting at a stop light about 3 cars back from the front, all of a sudden this GTS Viper pulls up behind me. He begins to rev his engine a little and I decide not too. I saw that he had a temporary plate up in his winshield so I figured he just got the car. Im stuck behind traffic so he downshifts and takes off. The chase begins!!! Just so that you all know this is at fairly slow speeds. Several lane changes occur to catch up to him and we end up at the stop lights right down town. There are tons of guys looking at us. I ask the guys what year it is, is it stock etc...He tells me its a 98 GTS with a "racing cam" in it. Right away im suspect of this guys. He tells me he just got the car from Denver Colorado. I believe him of course because of the temporary plate in his winshield as stated above. I dont really believe that he has a "racing cam" in his car though. First of all, who calls it a racing cam? Second of all he goes and tells me that the car has 500hp. Can anyone tell me what the HP/TQ specs are on a 98 GTS? Ok, back to the race! So we both punch it off the lights, I know this because I can hear his wheels chirping as he shifts into second. I power shift into second and Im atleast 2 lenghts ahead of his already, I shift into 3rd and I let off. I was very suprised because I know that he was giving it. Iam just wondering, what gives with that? Look at my mods in my sig, should he have not dusted me?

THe 98 GTS had 400-450hp at the fly as i recall and he should have creamed you. No, i doubt he had a "racing cam" like i do (well...ford racing alphabet cam, lmao). Still, viper is 3300#ish and 400+hp while you are 3600#ish and 375hp. Then again, depends on the size of those 2 guys...anywho...yeah, it should have been kinda close, but not really, you beat the driver, good kill.

Question??? I know when people claim 'racing this' and 'STAGE 2 that' it makes you kinda think ummm??
But if he did have a cam swap would you have been any the wiser if he spouted out the stats of it?

I was just trying to say, who calls it a racing cam? I mean when people say that it makes me suspect to the fact that they actually have one. Most people would say its cammed. It is possible that he had a cam but it was just me trying to read the situation. Thanks for the replies though

No it wouldnt mean much to me at all if you could tell me the Cam specs but if you said I have a cheaTR cam in the car or a T-Rex or something of that sort I would not be so suspect. To me saying, "Its got a racing cam in it" seems to be a less knowledable statement as to what your car really has done to it, if anything at all.

Please help me out, a ton of idiots i know go around spouting "3/4 race cam, half race cam, full race cam" What the hell are these "cams"??? I can understand lift/duration/LSA but this full,half,3/4 business is driving me crazy. As far as my mods, at the stop light I have a hood, new paint, and flowmasters with a massive exhaust leak
