my guess is that you should either find a new roomate, or kick his ***. this kid talks way too much **** with a low 13 second piece of junk.

Just those 2 small mods should give you an honest 20hp for under $100, if you look around + you get the victory. When you're ready to really calm this guy down.....torque converter/shift kit and headers are your friends.

I have heard evidence supporting the fact that a lid isnt that great of a mod...???

To go from 3.23s to 4.10s it's just a ring/pinion swap, and reprogramming the PCM isn't necessary, but it is nice to have a working speedo. The only carrier that would need to be swapped is the 2.73 carrier since it's a series 2. The 3.23 and 3.46 geared cars came with series 3 carriers.

I bought my gears and had them installed for $300 total. Just gotta look for the deals!! I did no work myself.

A lid will give you 6 or 7 rwhp. I'd just modify my stock one if I had an LS1, it's easy to grind down the pieces inside.

Why? you have a 10bolt.....it's best not to do anything to it, 3.23's are a good gear for an auto.
Wrong and wrong. The 10-bolt is a decent rear end until you start running low 11s. I've seen many, many, many 10-bolts hold up, ESPECIALLY in an A4 car. I saw just a few weeks ago a stock 10-bolt with a mini-spool and 3.73 gears take the punishment of a car on slicks running 11.1@129 with a 1.7 60 ft through a T-5 transmission. With his auto, doing gears in his 10-bolt is a fine enough mod until he wants to go really, really fast.

And the 3.23 gears are better than 2.73s, but still dogs. 3.73 cogs are far better and retain decent RPMs for the highway. I have 4.10s in my A4 and don't regret it a bit and my gas mileage got slightly better in town, slightly worse on the freeway.

Keep your gears. I bet you beat him due to 1) not shifting worth a crap 2) spinning the tires off the line.

A lid with a filter is a 1st must. You can pick them up used for $50-70

I run a stock 10 bolt and 3.23's for 3 years now and run in the 11's.

No chance for Billet Boy

Wrong, you need to re-program or his 4L60E will NOT SHIFT properly...M6, you dont need to worry though. Other than speedo.

While you've seen many last, I'm sure many have broken. Regarless, I still think a lid and cutout would be a much better mod for the money. With 4.10's and street tires, on an unprepped street somewhere--traction will be an issue. He could get better tires, but then he'd be out $700-800. I say, why overspend when $75 will get you tha win. I'd also do a torque converter before gears.

GMHTP did a ccomparison article on 6 different lids with a stock '00 Z28. They all knocked atleast a tenth of the ET with the fastest shaving .2 off, and running 12.92 with a 2.1 60'.

Have you taken it to the track before? If not, how do you know it's a high 11 sec car? Or you are just guessing.

Low 12 -12.5 second car if you're spraying it. High 11's, NOT!!! 13 second car if on motor. But still a quick car. Why wait for tires. Just race.

BottleFed03GT will have the edge, as long as he can shift. When he sprays, its all over. Good luck on the 11's, you'll need suspension work to get that to hook half way decent.

my experiance w/ a modded 5 speed GT when I was lid and catback was:
2004 GT: bassani headers, x pipe, flowmaster exhaust, CAI, TB, 390 gears(?? so he said), performance clutch, BFG DR's, short shifter.
2001 Z28: slp lid, slp loudmouth catback.
I walked the dog **** outta this kid 2 times, from a dig was by 4-5 cars up to 120mph, from a 35mph roll to 120mph I had 3-4 cars on him.

So, just go race the guy, never know what will happen. The guy w/ the GT sounds like he has alot more experiance w/ racing, whereas the SS dude does not. It will still be a drivers race like it or not.

the mustang driver is just a bench racer he has almost no track time either and on top of that he has only ran 1/8 th mile so thats what he is basing his time on, he has ran 2 z28s and got spanked both times (with no spray)so thats why he is doing a couple of more mods,he got spanked from a roll and a dig
