02 GT stang vs LS1 Z28
well.. i ran a LS1 Z28 today... after work i was cruizin some and he pulls up and starts to try to play with me.. so im like... ok so from about a 50 roll we get on it and i spin some and pull him like 1-1.5 cars. his car was pretty loud and it had mufflers... what would he have had to have in it to stay that close to me? im putting 440rwhp and 420 torque. what does it take for a z28 to be as quick as that? my car should run a very low 12 or even high 11.

Bolt on's like Longtubes, catback, lid, etc. An LS1 doesn't need heads and cam to run mid 12's. You said you had 1-1.5 cars on him. Thats about how far ahead I'd expect you to be in front of a bolt on car without heads/cam. A car with a decent cam will run high 11's and would at least be at your side.

I would say he had H/C or a nice Cam or even alittle N2O, Your car with that power should be in the 11s easy. Mine was when I was "only" at 418rwhp. You would run away from a basic bolt-on LS1 easy......

You're kidding right? They guy said he was putting down 440 RWHP. He would wax the **** out of a full bolton LS1. I would say his estimate that he runs low 12s/high 11s is conservative.

Full bolt ons would include longtube headers, ory or catted Y pipe, catback or true duals, fast 90/90 intake manifold, lid or CAI, underdrive pulley, it could also incluce an electric water pump. With these mods you can easily see 370-380 rwhp and with a good tune, maybe even more.

There are a couple things I think you guys are forgetting:
1-He's got a heavy convertible w/ a heavy blower(not a stripped hardtop)
2-He asked what mods an LS1 would have to have to get BEAT by 1-1.5 car lengths.
3-An LS1 won't have to exactly equal the hp of the mustang to keep up with him. That is beside the point though, because he was asking what it would take to get BEAT by a car and a half.
4-A well driven bolt on(no cam) LS1 could stay within a car and a half of his convertible mustang.

I would estimate a full bolt on LS1 to be in the 375 HP area.
Full bolt ons being...
LT headers
y-pipe or x-pipe
catback or duals
cutout(s)
LS6 manifold & ported throttle body or 90/90 combo
Underdrive pulley
Air lid or intake
Subframe connectors (doesn't add power, but is a bolt on nonetheless...helps get better traction)
And there's a few other minor bolt ons I may be missing. Add heads/cam to the full bolt ons and that LS1 is looking at around 450 HP. Add a 100 shot of nitrous and your looking at around 550 HP. Add a torque convertor (doesn't add power, but helps make power). I mean the list goes on and on.
