Default LT1 TA vs LS2 GTO

So, I'm leaving my buddy's house Sunday night after watching the jags game. I get on the on ramp and get on it a little. Its already dark out, I check my rearview and see a car coming up fast in the slow lane, the other 2 lanes were open so I ASSumed he would get over and just let me in. Well, he doesnt until the very last second. He whips over to the middle lane and pulls even to my door and mashes the go pedal. I looked over to see a red goat (Ls2 i presume, had dual tip rear on it) take off. I follow suit. Now, I'm thinking whatever, he'll walk me, but it's always fun to see another car go to. To my surprise at about 75-80mph, I pass him and keep about a car length on him. Traffic appears ahead, so I slow to the predetermined, state regulated, mph. The 'goat pulls up to my right again and gooses it a little. i roll the window down to say nice ride, etc etc. He and his girl just look over and take off..WTF?! i've got a car in front of me. I take off, 100% ***** to the walls, catch him around 85mph, put my blinker on, go around him, waive, then proceed to put about 2 cars on him as we run to 110mph. i went ahead and moved to the far left to merge to 95N, he went far right to go 95S.
Fun night. Little LT still manages to surprise me. From the way took off, it appears to have been a auto.

Cant see this race happening unless he was playing with you. You gave him the hit and you still passed him by 1 car the first race and 2 cars the second race. I guess he was melting the tires off or something so I will say nice kill but other than that I cant see it happening with your mods.

AUTO 05 GOAT= 330rwp
my ta 297rwp

he weighs 3700+lbs
I have 3.73 as well. His car didnt sound like he was "playing". My car was lean when it dynoed that. Seems to have worked that out. The guy that dynoed said i should have picked up another 10-12rwhp and about 15-17ft/lbs.
So, I'm close to his power, better gears, better power to weight. have to invest in a vid camera I guess.

Oh well.

Yeah, the 05's do. They rate them at 400hp to the crank.

The average LS2 GTO dynos I've seen are 340-450 to the wheels. I don't trust all dynos. Go to ls1gto.com. Even some '05/06 auto owners put down more than 330 stock to the wheels. Good kill but an '05/06 GTO auto should be able to pull you especially on top end.

Im very surprised his lt1 made that much power. They are rate 275 crank, but a tb, intake and exhuast gave hime almost 300 rwhp without an aftermarket cam?

My lt1 was slow as a dog, but the clutch was slippin...

Yeah there is no way he is making 296hp on that car. I wouldn't believe it even if I saw a dyno sheet.

Stock is 245 on an A4 LT1. So you are essentially saying from intake and exhaust you got 50 horsepower since a 52mm TB would not give any gains. That would mean he made 25hp from his intake and 25hp from the catback. Or 10hp from the intake and 40hp from the catback. Which is pretty absurd. Theres definitely a cam hidden in that car if it is making those numbers.

That is on the low end though.

Typically they can be anywhere from 240-260, although 296 is on the high side for just those mods.

Still, if the goat was completely stock and he did have that power plus the 3.73s it's not an unlikely event that he would win.

I was just saying with his mods I couldnt see it happening. I also didnt read that it was an auto so maybe he was at the wrong mph or gear and it didnt downshift. oh well. Good kill or whatever it was.

are you sure it wasn't a GTP? those have dual exaust and the letters GTP look like GTO. There are autos running sub 13 bone stock...your car is just not in that league.

I think ylwgto04m3 and 87turbo2 should race if you walked a 05 the o4 should be easy to take down especially with your horspower and gears.

I am the 3rd owner of the TA. Was told the TC it HAD in it and with the jethot's it ran 12.5-12.7 on DR's. I'm hoping it can do about 13.3-13.5 as it is now.

once I get a little more $$ and time, I'll take it to Gainesville to see what it does.
LT14Formula- sheet has been posted before, crappy cell phone camera though,

and for the yellow GTO, this is my 3rd pontiac (I just got rid of a 98SE grand prix and the wife now has a 00 ram air Grand am GT) so yeah, I know the differance. Geez I've owned about 30 cars in the last 10 years, kinda of a car nut, so I know what a car looks like. No hard feelings for not believing me though
Not like you live here or we could meet up and run or something. As I've stated, I was told the car was an LT4 with the stock LT4 cam (NOT the HOTCAM), but when I had it dynoed the guy said it was def a LT1. But anyways. 1/4 slip will solve everything I guess.

Dude, don't sweat it. Their are a lot of GTO owners on this board that think they are above par. I have an 01 Ws6, so I know what a quick car is. I also have a 97 GTP, and no one on this board believed that my GTP beat a 04 and 05 GTO from a Roll and a light.

Most will say "some GTO's have run low 13's stock"

Then why does my video of me running at the track have all of them running 14.0-14.5 with multiple passes?

I believe that an LT1 would be a decent match for a bone stock GTO.

well with traction and a good driver they can hit high 13's, but low 13's is hard to believe BONE STOCK.

LT1's were underrated just like LS1's were, and just like LS1's not every car dynoes the same, some cars dyno higher. 52mm TB in an LT1 is bigger than you think since it is the butterfly design, not a single opening, so yes it would make more power as a result of it.
