you guys are right and wrong. I saw a VR4 running at island in NJ in the mid 14s at low 90s. I also know of one VR4 (basically same car as a stealth TT) run mid 12s. heres his post on a local PA board:
I believe he said he has $350 worth of "performance mods" (not wheels and other miscellaneous stuff.) I've met the guy several times and saw his car. I would trust what he says. Ive also seen him burn all four tires
I spent the day at Island, got 3 runs in.
Race weight 37xx lbs without me, 3880 with me.
Quarter tank pump gas (94oct).
Intake / 3" DN Downpipe / 3" Testpipe / MBC @ 15lbs (stock is 12 lbs)
RPS Max Pressure Plate / Intrax / Enkei RP-01 18x9 / Nitto NT555 245/40/18
Stock everything else with 150k on it.
First Run (ever):
R/T... 0.191
60'... 1.972
330... 5.546
1/8... 8.489
MPH... 84.31
1000... 10.990
1/4... 13.096
MPH... 108.06
Lost to a 10 second muscle car on this run, but gained the same mph in the second 1/8 as he did.
Second Run:
R/T... 0.084
60'... 1.772
330... 5.256
1/8... 8.162
MPH... 85.74
1000... 10.629
1/4... 12.717
MPH... 108.94
Beat a WRX's 14.574 at 94.03 with a -0.04 R/T on this one.
Third Run:
R/T... 0.261
60'... 1.729
330... 5.296
1/8... 8.279
MPH... 83.20
1000... 10.809
1/4... 12.935
MPH... 107.15
Beat a Mustang's 14.912 at 96.10 on this one.
All in all a good day ... I was bummed by my first 13.1 but psyched at the 108 trap, and I was happy to get a decent launch to pull a 12.7 out of it. The last run was going great until the second eighth, no idea what happened. In any event I was pleased, not bad for 150,000 mile stock turbos on pump gas and virtually no weight reduction. :p
Tell me whatcha think. The 12.7 run is on video (which isn't online), and I have all the timeslips if anyone wants me to prove anything. This gives me a good baseline for when I put in the 13Ts....

Stock they aren't that fast, plus they are very heavy 4,000+lb's I believe. You can get some serious power out of them however once modded. Its not as easy to do as with say a Supra or Evo but Ive seen them with 600-700whp.

They can be fast, though full exsaust like the above post costs a hell of a lot more than $350. My DSMs exsaust was 450 and thats one bank of cylinders to worry about and a single tip.
They are heavy. But they do make great topend with minor mods. Its really kind of Ironic that the car is overall best for roll racing where weight does not mean much, yet they have AWD.
Basicly your average full bolt-ons LS1 does not have to worry too much with most of them IMHO. You wont have to worry much.

My friend has some basic performance mods on his 99 VR-4 and his car is defitently pretty quick, especially outta the hole, but it's hinderence is it's weight. I think they make 315 HP & torque stock. He got rid of those awful stock rims and got rid of some of that weight, but the thing is still heavy as a boat. I'd assume he's somewhere in the 13s

Have a friend with one that dyno at 670 at the wheels and runs high 10's and weighted in at about 3800 lbs, but he has spent a **** load of money, around 10k. Thats about as fast as the 3sx's get.

Problem with these cars is that (unlike it's rival Supra), besides their weight, they have weak internals. If you want to get to even 600 hp it'd be wise to start upgrading the motor too, which can cost a pretty penny. I don't know about the Stealth, but the VR-4 (especially in cherry condition) is 20K+ dollars & the fuel system, upgraded turbos, exhaust, down pipe, & other big & small stuff etc. can run you pretty deep into the thousands of dollars. My friend is going for show room quality and when it's all said and done, without motor work, he'll probably be to 45 or 50 thousand dollars (he just got a 7 thousand dollar paint job). Also, if the transmission gets damaged, they recommend to swap it out for a new one (that gets from 6-8 grand if i recall). Beautiful car, though, imo. His license plate reads: TRD ETR. Love that.

Vr4's and Stealth R/T TT have the same engines. It also depends on what you consider "Fast." Not everyone wants a 10-11 second street machine. Some people just want a nice 12-13 second car as their "fast" car. I've seen Vr4's and stealths into the 12's with just a boost controller and tires. Do some internal work, turn that boost way up you'll have a nice machine. Although their traps arent as good as Ls1s.

www.dynamicracing.com They build the fastest ones around. If my stepdad could get his running I would comment on the performance. It ran low 14s when it was stock, but the build up is taking forever. He went w/the dr1000 kit on that site and all supporting mods. Too much money...

There aren't very many completely stock Stealth TT's left. Just be aware of that. A stock appearing, sounding, driving one can be a low 11 second car or it can be a 15 second car with a horrible driver. As an example my stock 93 Stealth TT pulled off an 8.11 @ 85.86 MPH (12.7ish 1/4 mile) in the 1/8th with no performance modifications other than a 15 dollar boost controller. This was at a raceweight of nearly 4200 pounds. (car=3800, me=380) It was cold as crap that night at the track and my stock clutch absolutely hated me for it. As a matter of fact, I had to put in a new clutch shortly thereafter. The drivetrain in them is fragile and like most cars, it takes big money to make big power.
Obviously, everyone is entitled to their opinion. This is America.
I personally love the way they look and have a 92 Stealth TT as my daily driver to go along with my 93TT for use as a play/race car. Is my 93TT the fastest thing on wheels? Absolutely not. This fact does not change my opinion of it. Nor will it change the opinion of those that think it's a slow piece of **** that's heavy and ugly. Ain't America grand????
Those things are slow peices of ****. They are heavy and ugly.
