send them over to Stangnet.com there's a pretty good forum there.
As for headers check the sticky out (MOD GUIDE) in the External engine forum, posts 6 and 13 onwards (https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139142) it explains all about exhausts and headers. The general physics will be the same for ALL V8 engines whether they are Mustang or Chevy.
Essentailly Long tubes are the only way to go. PM me if you want more info.
Although depending on what they are planning with their car the money may be better spent on other mods, it all depends on what have and what they want to achieve.

Like was said LT's are the way to go, good luck though bolting those puppies up to a 01 4.6. They shouldn't drag either, my cousins doesn't although he is not lowered, but the ones on my 5.0 don't drag and it's pretty low actually the prochamber drags sometimes.

I've owned quite a few mustangs, glad to see ya helping a friend out ...
Is the car an automatic or a standard? If its an auto, I"m gonna advise some shorties, simply because it'll make install MUCH easier...If its a standard, I'd say go with LT's, because install won't be all that bad....
Just my .02

LT's, X-pipe(or H, depending on what you want your power curve to look like),Magnaflow or Spintech Cat-back tends to sound WICKED on a mustang. All this should be worth around 20-30rwhp. the LT's will give you the bulk of the hp, along with getting rid of the FOUR!!! cat's via offroad pipeing. The cat-back should be chosen PURELY for sound, imho, as the hp gain/loss between styles/brands etc. etc. is minimal at best.
