Default 01 a4 TA-Stock vs 350z

yea my second race!. this was a totally different race though. anyhow. we was on the interstate. and he was about 4 carlenghts ahead and i started speeding up to get beside him and passed him doing about 80 mph. well he then got in the left lane and started pseeding up. and he punched it and i was ready and also punched it. he gained a few feet and i slowly started walking passed him and by 120 i had about a car inbetween us.. came up to some traffic and he was behind as soon as traffic cleared he took off but i was ready and also hit it and we went from about a 65 roll to about 145ish and i had 4-5 car lenghts on him.
this time i let him in front and let him punch it first and he gained alittle bit and then i started pulling on him again. and just left off after that because i kenw i was quicker than him. i then just followed him and was hoping he would take the exit rmap which he did and then he put his flashers on so i knew he wanted to talk. so we talked for a bit. he showed me his car really nice engine bay he has did alot of apperance stuff. he han a nice aem intake setup. he put a smaller pulley on the car said the stock pulley weighed 7-9 lbs or somehting and the one he installed weighed 2 lbs. he was 6 speed manual. he had about 30 hp to the wheels extra in all. it was a 2005 model. silver. really nice looking. anyhow i am happy .

Nice. I ran a couple too. One stock 2006 and a modded '05. Those things can HOOK! Or maybe he knew how to drive it like it's supposed to be driven. From a roll, they are nothing. In fact, the '06 jumped me while I was in 6th gear. I downshifted and chased. After a 3 car jump, I steadily pulled and passed him at like 115-120.I killed the '05 from a roll too, but from a dig, he killed me on the launch, took me to 120 to catch him.

Anyway, nice kill!

Nice kill and it's cool that you guys were able to chat it up after the race. Are you stock or do you have something done to the car? One thing I think he may have BS'd you on was the 30 HP to wheels comment. The AEM intake is good for about 10 horse and the crank pulley another 10 or so and the car comes with 287 stock. Plus those numbers are rated at the crank and not to the wheel. Z's respond somewhat okay to NA parts, The FI ones can really take off.

i am stock. as far as i know bought the car used. had one owner 56k miles on it. exhaust is stop filter was stock ect ect. 350z dont have the top end power most think they have. stock only trap 98-102 range. and they are lighter than us. they have smooth powerband like us though but for whatever reason im not impressed with the z top end. im sure the TT are alot better up top.

he had more done to the car. i belive. his rear tires were 255's i think he said. they were considerably wider than his front tires. probly slowed him down up top having the extra rotating mass.

well, at 120 if you get pulled over, THATS IT, hrmmmm, thats the MAIN reason, 100 isnt so wrong anymore, but 120 is A MORTAL SIN still...

believe it or not we are actually not that much lighter than you and that kinda sucks. The Z is a fat *** of a car. lol I think mine weighs 3300 or 3400lbs. You guys arent that much more except for when its a convertible like in your case.

Hey HKS, I have heard the same thing, the 350Z is WICKED above 100mph, can you verify this? the one I ran from 70 to 90 was weak as hell in that speed range i guess, do they perk up at 100-120ish? I have heard them pulling F-bods at 130ish (you know, creeping up on them). Is this just a rumor?

I responded to you in the other thread on this but I'll say it here too. It definetly pulls harder after the 100 mark. I did it as a test run tonight and it's pretty cold out and the motor loves that ****. But it seems somewhat sluggish like you said from 70-90. I don't really know why or what would cause it to be any faster over 100. I went from like 110 to 140 in like no time tonight. For the F body thing I'm not really sure cause I've gotten on it at like 45-50 mph and by the time I hit 100 they are usually a car up on me so they'll start slowing down. I'll race my buddies FRC Vette from 100 and let you know cause now i'm interested too.

Wow I didn't want to believe it but I did a lil research and found out that a stock 98 Z28 will get to 100 about 1.2 seconds faster than a 03 350Z, then an almost 3 second difference between the two getting to 120, then an about 2.3 second difference between them getting to 140.

Obviously this will not be the exact case but the damn things speed up past 120!

That's pretty cool.

I will post this in another thread about 350Z's on the same topic so if you see it again don't feel lost)

Now you know it's true.

Anyone know why that is? Powerband? What?

I have noticed this very same thing with the 03/04 Cobras against us F-bodies. I think it is the gearing. I used to race my friends new 04 Cobra and we where neck and neck, i would actually pull maybe half a car until we hit fifth gear, then he would steadily beat me. He would put a couple car lengths on me by 150mph. I think Unit213 might be able to chime in and explain this or either confirm my theory or not.
