couple mustang questions...
i have a 99 z28...by the summer it will be full bolt on with conveter and gears...have a couple mustangs i am going to race and have a few questions...
one is a 5.0 with headers, exhaust, pulley, some ignition things, upper and lower intake, 5 speed with new tranny, gears dont know what at leaset 3.73, and a cam i beat him pretty bad before the cam and i was just wondering what you think it will be like this time...he says he thinks he is making 300 to 325 but i just dont think he is but i could be wrong.
the other is a 01 i think gt with a 4.6 i know he has headers and exhaust and 3.73 gears with a five speed, he also has ported and polished stock heads. he claims to be making 350 to the wheels. to me that sounds pretty high but maybe i dont know as much as i thought about mustangs. he thinks my car wont be that fast because it is an automatic and siad he will get me off the line ha oh well...he didnt even know what a converter was. could he be making that much?

headerS!!!! exhaust w/o cats is worht about 20-25 rwhp total on a fox. Pulleys are good for 10-15 and the intake is a solid 10-15. the cam is worth another 10-15 (stock heads SUCK!!!) So he is probably around 230-235 whp (simply b/c things dont add up the way ricers would like, all parts help each other, exhaust and intake are worth much less, as is his cam considering his stock 150 cfm intake/130 cfm exhaust flow...) He should do about the same as a 5.0 cobra with gears. In short, i would expect high 13's if he can drive and his car is solid.
the 4.6 AGAIN, WE HAVE headerS, not a header...but... he is making about 260-280 at the wheels and thats assuming that God himself took up the die grinder and did his heads for him. If a normal guy just touched it up, i would say he is making about 260 or so assuming he has a STRONG car and without cams, its pointless. You should beat them both.

lol sorry about the headers thing..it wont happen again i promise.
i figured they were a little high on their estiamte of hp. i guess i will just have to see what happens. thank you

125 shot on a fox body with slicks and his mods would put him in the 320-350 whp range. If he did not break something he could easily hit VERY low 12's. My friend's 85' fox with 320 whp is hitting 12.2@109. A gear+stall Z should be in the mid 12's on a DR or slick I would think. Long and short, on the bottle it will be good...if he doenst blow 3rd gear.

he doesnt have slicks he just has skinny stock wheels with street tires, i dont know what he will have when we race he said he is a little tight with money right now cause of the cam so i guessing the same tires he has. i just have street tires as well, they are 275's, i still have the stock 10 bolt and dont really want to blow it. thanks for the replies

You prolly wont kill it with a 4L60E until you hit the 400+ rwhp mark unless you put a trans-brake in it. Traction will be a HUGE issue for him. I run 15x7 turbine rims with 245/60/15 tires and can punch it at 20 mph and go up in smoke.

From a 20 you go up in smoke...sounds like we should race from a 20 roll lol. Hows tomorrow? Sorry to hijack. You should win both. If the fox sprays with street tires plan on him wanting to go from a roll.

Back to the thread: the 5.0 spraying from a roll will not be very smart on his part as he gives up his wonderful advantage fro ma dig and with gears 3.73+ he will only be good for 120mph or less. Take him from a 60 mph roll and go to 140 and you should own him. Spraying from a dig or jsut after takeoff from a dig race is his best bet if he can get some tires.

A basic bolt-on 5.0L with a 125 shot should be able to bust off a low 12 at 110 or so. Should be a good run for your car with bot-ons and a convertor. Have fun.
