I think you should ask yourself if your car can run low to mid 13's, while trapping somewhere between 103 and 107mph. A while ago, a member here to his stock Mach to high 12's with drag radials.

How fast is your 3000GT compaired to your LS1 car? Because for the most part an LS1 f-body vs. Mach1 is a drivers race (or at least pretty close)
If your GT can hang with your LS1 then it can hang with a Mach1

It's gonna be tough, bpu vr4's tend to run low to mid 13's, but from a dig in a street race, tach her up to 4k, rev the engine afew times to build boost, then let the clutch out the whole way, slipping it, don't dump it or you'll bog or break a t/c case, and you should net a 1.6 60', if he's on street tires and you do the launch, AND, ESPECIALLY AND ONLY, if your VR4 is healthy and the ecu is not pulling timing bc it's detecting knock (use race gas!). Make sure, and get a datalogger so you can log for knock and idc's (injector duty cycle) and don't turn boost past 15psi.
You can do it with the launch. I don't know about the roll. Maybe.

dude if you just follow what i said you will win. If your car is pulling timing and you dont know it (you cant tell except by butt dyno) then you will lose. If you dont launch the car properly you will lose. If you turn the boost past 15 psi on stock fuel pump and injectors you're gonna lose or possibly worse. If you get some nitrous and do a small shot, you will definately be in the 12's if done properly.

You can tell if your pulling timing with any datalogger. Without, just check your base timing. You can borrow a timing light from near anybody, or just get one at AutoZone. Logging is the best, but you probably dont need it for your mild mods right now.
Look, compression test your intake, check your boost levels, check your tire pressure, adjust your clutch if you think its needed, and do a compression test for the hell of it.
Run 14.5 PSI. Dont heat soak your IC prior to the race. Use some 100 octane, every decent town has some somewhere, just do a google or yahoo search.
Then race. I suspect it will be a good one. You both have power, and you both have a nice hole shot. Machs are geared for that well. Have some fun.

Now you guys may not believe me but I pulled on a Mach 1 today on the way back from school. It was one of the guys at the local American Axle Plant and I later today I mentioned it to a friend that works there, and he knows the guys because of the license plate. He was running street tires, and has an Exhaust Kit. My friend said his best time at the strip was a 13.4 @ not sure..
Well anyways, I got the light with him. I didn't think he wanted to race, so when the light turned green I just started to roll out, and got 1/2 car out in front of him. Then as I'm going, I can hear him go WOT in first gear (about 15mph), and as his bumper closed in to my front bumper so I did the same. to 60 mph (yes not even really a race, but close enough) I had him slighlty passed my rear bumper, and I shut down.
This of course is with my gear robbing 28" tall snow tires, and my 180 T-stat tune. My car certainly doesn't run 12s, but it's all in the driver
